Process Leadership

Process leaders work with and through others using analytic tools and facilitation. They use process to effectively and efficiently make decisions, solve problems, and implement actions aimed at achieving district strategy and goals.

When leaders employ analytic process, they expect problems will be better solved. However consistently using analytic process can produce other positive results, as well. These results can be among the most profound, compelling and long-lasting:
  • A culture of increased openness, trust, and satisfaction
  • A more capable and confident workforce-and one that feels more valued
  • Increased confidence and trust from others within and outside the district
  • People who become more proactive in identifying and addressing problems

In our next issue, we will begin to examine the characteristics, beliefs and behaviors of successful process leaders.

FLASH Points

Two very different classes in Athens, GA recently used SCAN® and www.yourtake.org. One class consisted of disadvantaged 9th graders considered at risk for dropping out of school. Their teacher was pleased and excited to see her students finding their voice and being so involved in their SCAN task -- all while demonstrating abilities in reading comprehension and retaining information.

The second class, comprised of advanced students, also found SCAN engaging. One student, Patrima, said, "I felt like I could be myself. Sometimes they hate me. But I know they don't, they hate what I'm capable of. www.yourtake.org makes them capable too. Not using your real name (just having a screen name)...I have never seen my class smarter. People spoke as they were, like I like to do, and that made me so happy."

Two very different classes experienced similar results: students engaged and enthusiastic --making sense of complexity while exploring different points of view.
