From The Garden
It's hard to believe it's already December. Thanksgiving flashed by for me. We had a great gathering of relatives at our home and it was a wonderful time. But as we were preparing for company, we were still gardening. The raised bed got a good cleaning and a layer of chicken manure for the winter. Other beds are still producing carrots and broccoli that we planted in late summer and fall. We dedicated one bed to garlic and shallots for harvest next spring.
There is always more to do, but the garden looks ready for winter until pruning the grapes, berries, and fruit trees start in January. You just have to love gardening, it's never a dull moment. Now I just need to learn how to grow sparkly purple poinsettias. -Chris Shonnard |
Tree Flocking, Delivery and Setup

Create a beautiful winter wonderland right in your house by having your tree flocked this year.
You know it's beautiful, but what is it exactly? Flock is a product made of paper pulp, adhesive, and fire retardant. Unlike the old home flocking kits, commercial flock is blown on as a wet slurry, then dried on the tree with hot air. It makes the tree white; depending on amount of flock used, it can simulate frost, light snow, or heavy snow on the branches.
Flocked trees last indoors, much longer than a green cut tree. For those who want to decorate early, or prolong the season through New Years, a flocked tree will still be safe and attractive.
Flocked trees can be "sealed" (flocked on the underside first, then flocked normally) for people with allergies to mold or conifers. They are also very fire resistant.
Trees can also be flocked over lights. The lights are not re-usable after flocking, but the tree is already "decorated" from the moment it is stood up at home.
We also offer tree delivery and setup. Contact us for details. |

It's Time to Deck the Halls
Decorating with evergreen greenery has always been an important part of holiday traditions. The tradition can be traced back to the Greeks and Romans who believed evergreens had supernatural powers because they remained green all year long. In the 15th Century it was customary for Londoners to make sure every home and parish was "decked with holly, ivy and whatsoever the season of year afforded green". How lucky we are to have local greenery to decorate our homes during this holiday season.
Join us for one of our Decorating with Holiday Greens seminars. Create your own beautiful swag for your front door or porch pot displaying greens in a container. Choose either for just $15.00. We suggest wearing gloves and dressing warm as the class will take place in the greenhouse. Bring your favorite pair of pruners! Saturday December 3rd @ 11am Wednesday December 7th @ 11am
