Walmart's coming, ready or not!
Should we love or hate them?
In a few weeks, another Walmart store will open about 1.25 miles from our little (but growing thanks to y'all!) consignment store. The very same day that I drove by the "Now Hiring" banner I also waited on a young lady at our store, expecting her first munchkin. And for the merest moment this thought flickered in my head:
'Good for her! I'm glad someone mentioned our store to her starting off so young. I wish someone would have told Char and I about resale 9 years ago when we first were expecting!'
I'm never going to sell this young lady the gazillion diapers she will need, baby bibs that never quite turn white again, or even toothpaste in a few years. But in that moment I felt a certain heart-felt satisfaction that in our own tiniest, infinitesimally small way we were helping her get a head start in the arduous journey known as parenting. And enough small things, over time, can really add up.
There are soooo many kids I've worked with through my LEGO(R) rental service at Brixalot.com that ONLY want BRAND name and NEW stuff and COOL enough stuff, and their parents have clearly been blessed (or at least *look* like they are blessed) with good fortune to bestow them with such things. But I'm saddened to think about the rude awakening they will have as they become parents and may or may NOT have the same fortune... |

Don't forget to pick up your tax donation receipts before tax day next month!
Items with a "pick up date" of 2/29/12 or 3/1/12 (on your Item List Email) will be donated after 3/14/12. If you checked off "pick up" when you dropped off, please do so within those two weeks!
We hope you have been pleased with our quick turn around on your drop offs! The scheduled drop offs are helping us to keep up with the demand and we are currently processing your items within 2 weeks. Hooray! Special Walk-In Weeks! We will take "Easter" Dresses and Boy's Suits WITHOUT an appointment until March 17th. NEW TOYS ONLY, please! Or we are quickly overrun with brightly-colored, singing, dancing plastic things!!
