Howdy, !
Important Dropoff Changes Coming in 2010...
Dropoffs are DONE for 2009 and Start Again Jan 5, 2010
Overwhelming. Strangely, this is not necessarily a BAD thing in this economy, but it certainly shows we're growing by leaps and bounds!!! Overwhelming is the word I'd use to describe how many new (and loyal!) Consignors we've taken on since opening in Chantilly :-) But this is a double edged sword: HUGE SELECTION for y'all but challenging for us to serve you in a timely fashion.
GOOD NEWS: We've hired seasonal helpers till mid-December! BAD NEWS: We're still almost 5 weeks backlogged in dropoffs!
So we're cutting off dropoffs till next year (don't worry, if you dropped off tomorrow we wouldn't get to you till next year anyway, so no worries :-) We have soooo much stuff to put out over the next 5 weeks in time for the holidays:
- Just put out another 40 Holiday Dresses and outfits, all sizes
- Received over 50 Gymboree 2- and 3-piece outfits, 2-6yrs
- 40+ new shoes, boots, and sneakers just out
- 4 large dropoffs of older kids' clothes (5+ yrs old)
- Significantly increased kids' book selections (great gifts!)
So we're learning and we STILL need extra grace from y'all :-) I kinda think we will ALWAYS need extra grace (doesn't everyone?) as we grow and try things. We're trying soooo hard NOT to be like other stores. So hang in there if we didn't get to you fast enough. Our goal is still less than 1 week turnaround...
...but that was before we added over 300 consignors with 600+ bins in 2 months... At the moment, I feel like the Smiley above on the second row, last one on the right! For you "old school" ascii aficionados, the corresponding TEXT smiley is %P but emoticons look so much cooler nowadays :-)
Read on for tips to maximize your bucks to bags ratio on dropoffs, great info on H1N1, how to check your LLaL account (ka-CHING!) on the internet at any time, and more!

| Maximi$e Your Dropoff$ |
One of our consignors, Ms. Julie W. from Aldie, knows how to turn old clothes into new cash. So far,
Over 600 out of her 700+ items have sold !!! No, she doesn't bribe us with chocolate chip cookies, we're not related to her, and she doesn't own an alien mind control device to hypnotize us (well, at least not that we know of, but then again, would we even know it?!? :-) The secret to her success in Consignment is not even a secret. It's understanding how to work within the system... - Good stuff sells. Better stuff sells better. Best stuff maximizes!
- This area has a GAZILLION new moms... which means they have a gazillion+1 baby outfits. 12months and under are common and plentiful - bring in only your top 25 outfits. We're turning away (or donating) the rest...
- Sets sell best, especially for 2-4T clothes. A nice 2- or 3-piece matched (or even complimentary) pair appeals to busy shopping moms. Would you rather sell 3 items for a little less or only 1 out of those 3 pieces separately for a lot less?
- Highest demand is 4T and above.
- Smaller dropoffs (25-35 articles) are processed first and fastest. Which means we get them out on the floor and available for purchasing sooner...
- Make sure you get your BEST stuff in BEFORE the two big purchase seasons: Spring and Back to School. See number 5 above (hint hint) and sort your best things into a "priority" bin, then leave the rest in the queue.
- When we say NO STAINS, we're not kidding. You would be amazed at how many people think we check clothes with both eyes closed, bags over heads, in the dark :-( And if we find stains, it slows down your processing, we look harder at the rest of your clothes (trust is broken) and have to be more selective.
- And general condition of the clothes is important, too... old styles, faded colors, missing buttons, broken zippers, smelly or musty, unwashed, etc. have the same effect as stains...
- If you want the most $$$ for your stuff, go to Ebay, Craigslist, etc. We're not offended and I always tell new consignors to give to your family/friends first, try Ebay or Craigslist, and you'll still end up with us :-) We check your clothes, find a reasonable price, tag 'em, hang 'em, and sell 'em for you. Feel free to deal with the public, shipping returns, lost addresses, bounced checks, or any of a myriad issues you will have to on the Internet... You can even try seasonal sales like Dani's Duds and hope your stuff sells in 3 days (the last day for $1). We'll be here when you're ready :-)
- I tell many of our clients that gently used Ferraris will get you to the very, very top of the dropoff queue!!!

| H1N1 and the Flu - Gets the Facts
|
Working with the public, we're asked all the time about H1N1 and the Flu in general... Do we disinfect the the toddler toys? Do LEGOs pose an elevated risk for Brix Club? And more :-)
All valid and poignant questions!!!
By FAR, the BEST article
I've found is from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) at this link:
Even if your friends/family are NOT interested in our store, send them this link for up-to-date, verified, and factual information regarding H1N1 or the Influenza virus family.
Highlights as they relate to our store:
- The H1N1 virus lives only 2-8 hours on typical surfaces, sightly longer on wet surfaces (e.g. kitchen/bathroom). You are waaaay more likely going to catch anything from someone, not something.
- We use Clorox Daily spray every night to disinfect our play area toys, bathrooms, and even LEGO(R) bricks for Brix Club.
- We provide complimentary hand sanitizer just inside the double doors.
Besides, WE don't want to catch YOUR bugs, either :-) And our kids meet lots of customers as well, so we go to great lengths to minimize risks.
As the GI Joe mantra states "Knowing is half the battle!" Be smart and wash your hands (like mamma always said - the #1 way to control germs!) |
NEW! Check Your LLaL Account ONLINE !!!
|
New starting NOW!
What items of mine have sold?!? How much is my account up to? What's the meaning of the Universe?
At least 2 out of 3 of these questions can be answered with our new, online Consignors Login from LLaL :-) It has a few limitations we don't like, but we chose to purchase the option to make it easier for y'all to find out how your account is doing from your home computer! It's pretty cool, actually ;-) Everyone should be getting a link in almost all the emails we send to you starting Jan 1, 2010 (we have to turn on this option manually for everyone, so be patient as we enable it for thousands of y'all!).
First, go to this link (tip - add it to your Favorites or Bookmarks)
and choose the CONSIGNOR LOGIN button. Then enter your email address (you have on file with us) and your password, first time user your password is the same as your email.

This brings you to your own, personalized Consignor Area Homepage. Be warned: we have not enabled ALL options here (for example, if you sold your stuff online through us - we're considering turning on this option late next year). The only thing you need is the TRANSACTION HISTORY link shown below:
Which brings up an itemized list of all the things of yours THAT HAVE SOLD and the amount you have in store credit as of yesterday (it uploads/updates every night). If you come in and request a check it may be slighly less than what your account shows. That is because we write checks based on what of your items sold last month.
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO:
- Does NOT provide a list of EVERYTHING you have available to sell - it ONLY lists what has sold to date. We've asked our computer software provider to add more functionality here, but that's all we can provide with this version.

Howdy! This is the Blog portion of our Newsletter where we will share our thoughts, hopes, dreams, fears, leftover pizza, good juju, left sock, and any random tidbit for those who want to know us better :-)
For those of you who read in our Sep 22 newsletter ( Click Here to read it in our archive) about the wasp infestation we had in our basement (and snake in our bedroom!), here's the final stats: - I swept up over 1000 wasp corpses (each dark spot is a wasp! This is one of several piles o' buggeroos I swept up!)
- The nest (behind our insulation downstairs) was 26" long, 8" wide, and 5" deep
As I stated in our last email, we had no stings in the entire family. Plagues might have visited our household, but we have Angels watching over us and continue to be blessed every day!
Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! What are YOU thankful for???
:-)
