Greetings!
Well the 12th Festival of Light on Saturday 21st April went very well indeed thanks to my team of helpers, the Winter Gardens staff, all the participants and visitors. The space in the Ballroom was certainly appreciated by participants and visitors alike. The next one the 13th will be on Saturday 30th June with free entry, presentations and workshops as always.
I am continuing to tweek how I work so I can eventually find time for the Loves of my Life. I no longer offer Telephone Consultations and have decided to cease the eCourses but will offer each of the 19 as Amazon Kindle eBooks, details below. To those who haven't completed and sent in their coursework do not worry you can still complete this to receive your certificate at any time.
Lots of talk about the weather and yes we have had some rain of late in the UK. However we are also having dry days with sunshine so lets make the most of whatever we get because there is little we can do to change this. I like to enjoy each day and look for the best in every situation.
Don't forget the Newsletter Archive with a link from each of my websites. http://www.drelizabethanndiamond.com

My Amazon Kindle Books
The following eBooks that I have put together are all available on Amazon Kindle. Most are either $1.23 or 77p. Those with the asterisk are $3.07 and £1.92 The UK price is governed by the dollar exchange rate so can fluctuate a little. I made the decision to price them very reasonably so they were accessible to all preferring to sell lots for a little rather than at a premium rate. You don't need a Kindle as you can download to your PC and Amazon gives you the software immediately to do this. I was offering all these as eCourses and those who have bought them can still return your coursework to gain your Continued Professional Development (CPD) Point certificates. If any of you still wish to do any eCourses just contact me and we can arrange this.
Although I have sold hundreds of the eBooks on Amazon Kindle only a handful of people have rated them. If you have already bought or buy one or more and like it/them can I ask you a favour? Would you post a review for me. Strangely I have a rave review in the UK for NLP but a rubbish in the USA! You can see them on:-

Oregano
The pasta and pizza herb - is killing prostate cancer cells
Oregano - the herb used in pasta and pizzas - kills prostate cancer cells. The results are so exciting that researchers hope that the 'super herb' will become a standard treatment - and one without side effects. Carvacrol, a constituent of oregano, is causing apoptosis - or cell death - in prostate cancer cells in laboratory tests being carried out by researchers from Long Island University. Their results mirror earlier studies that had discovered that pizza seems to reduce cancer risk, but now the new research suggests why it has such a positive effect. Initially, researchers believed that lycopene, which is found in the tomato sauce covering on pizzas, had anti-cancer qualities. The Long Island researchers say that oregano and lycopene could be working synergistically to kill cancer cells. What is clear is that neither have the same damaging side effects as the current therapies of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. (Source: The Experimental Biology 2012 conference, April 24, 2012). WDDTY
Note: A heaped tablespoon of unsalted and unroasted pumpkin seeds a day replicates the type of zinc that is deficient in men with cancer of the prostate. This will also help to prevent this cancer and they are cheap and very nice to chew and eat.
I have always preferred to work with wholesome food as remedies rather than the expensive supplements, de-toxes, etc.

Ivy - Common - Hedera Helix A Modern Herbal by Margaret Grieve 1931
I decided to include the Ivy this month as very dramatically the Ivy that I planted 20 years ago on the side of my house came adrift in the storm last Sunday morning. I still have a bit attached to the front of the house but on the side a piece 15' high and about 30' long was left just flapping, totally unattached to the wall. This was a very heavy piece of Ivy which my sons immediately had to start cutting down because the guttering and TV aerials were in danger of being brought down. The smell as it was being cut was lovely surprisingly.
Parts Used Leaves, berries.
The flowers of Common Ivy are small, in clusters of nearly globular umbels and of a yellowish-green, with five broad and short petals and five stamens. They seldom open before the latter end of October, and often continue to expand till late in December. Though they have little or no scent, they yield abundance of nectar and afford food to bees late in the autumn, when they can get no other. The berries, which do not become ripe till the following spring, provide many birds, especially wood pigeons, thrushes and blackbirds with food during severe winters. When ripe, they are about the size of a pea, black or deep purple, smooth and succulent, and contain two to five seeds. They have a bitter and nauseous taste, and when rubbed, an aromatic and slightly resinous odour.
History Ivy was in high esteem among the ancients. Its leaves formed the poet's crown, as well as the wreath of Bacchus, to whom the plant was dedicated, probably because of the practice of binding the brow with Ivy leaves to prevent intoxication, a quality formerly attributed to the plant. We are told by old writers that the effects of intoxication by wine are removed if a handful of Ivy leaves are bruised and gently boiled in wine and drunk.
The Greek priests presented a wreath of Ivy to newly-married persons, and the Ivy has throughout the ages been regarded as the emblem of fidelity. The custom of decorating houses and churches with Ivy at Christmas was forbidden by one of the early Councils of the Church, on account of its pagan associations, but the custom still remains.
An Ivy leaf is the badge of the Gordons.
The Roman agricultural writers much recommended Ivy leaves as cattle food, but they are not relished by cows, though sheep and deer will sometimes eat them in the winter. The broad leaves being evergreen afford shelter to birds in the winter, and many prefer Ivy to other shrubs, in which to build their nests.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Robinson tells us that a drachm of the flowers decocted in wine restrains dysentery, and that the yellow berries are good for those who spit blood and against the jaundice. Culpepper says of the Ivy: 'It is an enemy to the nerves and sinews taken inwardly, but most excellent outwardly.' To remove sunburn it is recommended to smear the face with tender Ivy twigs boiled in butter; according to the old English Leechbook of Bald.

The White Tiger
The white tiger is a symbol of serene strength and power in Japan and China where it is the tiger, not the lion who is "king of beasts". In Far Eastern astrology, the White Tiger is a supernatural figure who presides over the Western, or autumn quadrant of the sky. The spirit of the White Tiger combines the courage and fierceness of a soldier with an ethereal, magisterial dignity. In ancient times, the head of the White Tiger graced the shields of soldiers going into battle, the entrances to important fortifications and the bows of the Emperor's fastest ships. To wear the symbol of the White Tiger embroidered on ones robe was indicative of high rank among military officers. And in the ultimate tribute, the title of "White Tiger" was bestowed upon Yin Chen-Hsin, a canonized general by the last Emperor of the yin dynasty. The general's image is found on the entrance of all Taoist temples to this day.
The mystery and mythology surrounding the White Tiger continued unabated for centuries. Its likeness was frequently painted on sanctuary walls to frighten away demonic, evil spirits. In fact, tiger images pervade the remaining temples and structures of the famous Shogun dynasty of Japan. Now the spirit and essence of the legendary White Tiger are captured forever in fine Maki-e artistry on "The White Tiger of Asia" pen from Namiki. from Answers - Yahoo.com
It is thought that the white Tiger is a result of the in breeding of selected tigers. There was a white tiger exhibited in Exeter in 1820. The tiger in this photo has very faint stripes unlike many with very dark stripes. However there are albinos in all species and their eyes are usually pale pink.

The Ravens
at the Tower of London
There is a mass of mythology concerning the Raven. I've visited the Tower of London quite a few times since early childhood and I have always been fascinated by these magical birds, in fact I associated Ravens with magic in a very good way. Legend says that the kingdom and the Tower will fall if the six resident ravens ever leave the fortress. It was Charles II, according to the stories, who first insisted that the ravens of the Tower should be protected. This was against the wishes of his astronomer, John Flamsteed, who complained that the ravens impeded the business of his observatory in the White Tower. Despite their having one wing clipped, some ravens do in fact go absent without leave and others have had to be sacked. Raven George was dismissed for eating television aerials, and Raven Grog was last seen outside an East End pub.
There are seven ravens at the Tower today (the required six plus one spare!). Their lodgings are to be found next to the Wakefield Tower. These magnificent birds, large members of the genus Corvus, the crow family, respond only to the Ravenmaster and should not be approached too closely by anyone else. The ravens preside over four different territories within the Tower precincts. Visitors are asked not try to feed the ravens. They are large birds who are fed daily by the Ravenmaster. They can bite if they feel their territory is being threatened, so visitors are warned to be careful.

I found the following and the quote at the top of this newsletter on Facebook so I would like to share them all with you today as they resonated so deeply with me.
The recession
won't be over until we raise a generation
that knows how to live on what they have got
There are some people who always seem to be angry
and continuously look for conflict.
Walk away:- The battle they are fighting isn't with you,
it is with themselves.

Death
If I should die before the rest of you, Break not a flower nor inscribe a stone. Nor, when I'm gone, speak in a Sunday voice, But be the usual selves that I have known. Weep if you must, Parting is hell. But life goes on, So........ sing as well.
Joyce Grenfell, actress and writer (1910 - 1979)
