Newsletter February 2012

Aura Reading

Greetings!

This newsletter is a little earlier because of the date of the Chinese New Year, Monday 23rd January. I have always felt that for me the Chinese New Year is even more important than 1st January. The dates change each year but the start of the Chinese New Year will always be on a new moon. You may notice a 'theme' in this newsletter, dragons especially water dragons. I really feel that this will be a special year, in particular for myself.

I am very much looking forward to spring with longer days and new growth but I also appreciate this 'quiet' time when I like to review everything and clear out all that I have no use for.  I think that this is a very energising process and I make the most of it. I find it a great time to work out what I wish to do in my life. I am focusing on finding more time to work outside in my garden, fresh air, exercise and great satisfaction with the results. Yes I beleive that 2012 is going to be a great year for me.

There is now a Newsletter Archive with a link from each of my websites. http://www.drelizabethanndiamond.com

I get the feeling that the year of the Water Dragon will be very important because of the strong link the Chinese dragon has with water, see below.

Chinese dragons are legendary creatures in Chinese mythology and folklore, with mythic counterparts among Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Bhutanese, Western and Turkic dragons. In Chinese art dragons are typically portrayed as long, scaled, serpentine creatures with four legs. In yin and yang terminology, a dragon is yang and complements a yin fenghuang ("Chinese phoenix"). Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, particularly control over water, rainfall, hurricane, and floods. The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck.

The origin of the Chinese dragon is not certain. The presence of dragons within Chinese culture dates back several thousands of years with the discovery of a dragon statue dating back to the fifth millennium BC. The coiled snake or dragon form played an important role in early Chinese culture. The character for "dragon" in the earliest Chinese writing has a similar coiled form, as do later jade dragon amulets from the Shang period.

The people paint the dragon's shape with a horse's head and a snake's tail. Further, there are expressions as 'three joints' and 'nine resemblances' (of the dragon), to wit: from head to shoulder, from shoulder to breast, from breast to tail. These are the joints; as to the nine resemblances, they are the following: his horns resemble those of a stag, his head that of a camel, his eyes those of a demon, his neck that of a snake, his belly that of a clam (shen, ), his scales those of a carp, his claws those of an eagle, his soles those of a tiger, his ears those of a cow. Upon his head he has a thing like a broad eminence (a big lump), called [chimu] (尺木). If a dragon has no [chimu], he cannot ascend to the sky.

Chinese dragons were considered to be physically concise. Of the 117 scales, 81 are of the yang essence (positive) while 36 are of the yin essence (negative). Initially, the dragon was benevolent but the Buddhists introduced the concept of malevolent influence among some dragons. Just as water destroys, they said, so can some dragons destroy via floods, tidal waves and storms. They suggested that some of the worst floods were believed to have been the result of a mortal upsetting a dragon.

Chinese dragons are occasionally depicted with bat -like wings growing out of the front limbs, but most do not have wings, as their ability to fly (and control rain/water, etc.) are mystical and not seen as a result of their physical attributes.

Depictions of dragons in tattoos are prevalent as they are symbols of strength and power, especially criminal organisations where dragons hold a meaning all on their own. As such, it is believed that one must be fierce and strong enough, hence earning the right to wear the dragon on his skin, lest his luck be consumed by the dragon.

Chinese dragons are strongly associated with water in popular belief. They are believed to be the rulers of moving bodies of water, such as waterfalls, rivers, or seas. They can show themselves as water spouts (tornado or twister over water). Because of this association, they are seen as "in charge" of water-related weather phenomenon.   Edited from Wikipedia

Chinese New Year 23rd January 2012 to 9th February 2013

Water Dragons - Years 1952 and 2012

We come into the year of the Water Dragon on Monday 23rd January with the new moon. Water calms the Dragon's fire. Water Dragons are able to see things from other points of view. They don't have the need to always be right. Their decisions, if well-researched, are usually better since they allow other's to become involved.

How are the elements applied to each year?  Simply by the years ending in:-

2 or 3 = Water

6 or 7 = Fire     4 or 5 = Wood

0 or 1 = Metal      8 or 9 = Earth

Wood gives birth to Fire, which gives birth to Earth, which give birth to Metal, which gives birth to Water, which in turn gives birth to Wood.

The Parsnip

Parsnip

Just right at this time of year when they have had a frost or two

which makes them sweeter

A Modern Herbal - Mrs M Grieve

Written in the early 1900's

The food value of Parsnips exceeds that of any other vegetable except potatoes. It is easy of production and should be more extensively grown.

The Parsnip, together with the carrot, was cultivated by the Ancients, but the Roman horticulturists evidently knew nothing of the advantage of selecting seeds, by means of which the best existing variety has been developed. Pliny tells us it was grown either from the root transplanted or else from seed, but that it was impossible to get rid of the pungent flavour. The finest strain raised by Professor Buckrnan, between 1848 and 1850, as a result of his experiments in selection, was named by him the 'Student,' and having been further improved, still takes the first rank. It differs in several respects from the wild plant.

According to Pliny, Parsnips were held in such repute by the Emperor Tiberius that he had them annually brought to Rome from the banks of the Rhine, where they were then successfully cultivated. They are dressed in various ways and are much eaten with saltfish during Lent.

It has a tough, wiry root, tapering somewhat from the crown, from which arises the erect stem, 1 to 2 feet high, tough and furrowed. The leaf-stalks are about 9 inches long, the leaves divided into several pairs of leaflets, each 1 to 2 inches long, the larger, terminal leaflet, 3/4 inch broad. All the leaflets are finely toothed at their margins and softly hairy, especially on the underside. The sheath at the base of the leaf-stalk is about 1 1/2 inch long, the first pair of leaflets being 4 inches above it.

They contain an essential oil that has the reputation of curing intermittent fever. A strong decoction of the root is a good diuretic and assists in removing obstructions of the viscera. It has been employed as a remedy for jaundice and gravel.

Medicinal Action and Uses  Culpepper wrote:

'The wild Parsnip differeth little from the garden, but groweth not so fair and large, nor hath so many leaves, and the root is shorter, more woody and not so fit to be eaten and, therefore, more medicinal. The Garden Parsnip nourisheth much and is good and wholesome, but a little windy, but it fatteneth the body if much used. It is good for the stomach and reins and provoketh urine. The wild Parsnip hath a cutting, attenuating, cleansing and opening quality therein. It easeth the pains and stitches in the sides and expels the wind from the stomach and bowels, or colic. The root is often used, but the seed much more, the wild being better than the tame'

Transformational Telephone Consultations

Is it time to move on by clearing blockages and old social programming? If you are open enough, brave enough and ready enough this can be life changing because it will aid you to find your own 'true self'. I believe that in finding the 'true self' deep peace, tranquility and serenity will certainly follow.

I work simply but very powerfully using visualisation, a practice that can produce amazing results and very swiftly indeed. For those suffering dis-ease, discomfort, pain and illness, a way of indicating that we are out of balance and harmony, dramatic healing can also be actioned. Sometimes we have no idea how good we can feel until we decide to work on our self to transform our being.

The charge is £35 for however long it takes, usually at least an hour to two hours. Not available on a Sunday and daytime hours preferred.  I specialise in spiritual matters of ANY kind no matter how serious, and I do mean of any kind, also trauma counselling, relationship and health issues.  For more details and to book a consultation check out.

Puff the Magic Dragon

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,

Little Jackie paper loved that rascal puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name.
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave.

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

A song written by Leonard Lipton and Peter Yarrow, and made popular by Yarrow's group Peter Paul & Mary in a 1963 recording.

Symbolisms of the Dragonfly

Maturity and a Depth of character

The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world symbolizes change and change in the perspective of self realization; and the kind of change that has its source in mental and emotional maturity and the understanding of the deeper meaning of life.

The traditional association of Dragonflies with water also gives rise to this meaning to this amazing insect. The Dragonfly's scurrying flight across water represents an act of going beyond what's on the surface and looking into the deeper implications and aspects of life.

Power and Poise

The dragonfly's agile flight and its ability to move in all six directions exude a sense of power and poise - something that comes only with age and maturity.  The dragonfly can move at an amazing 45 miles an hour,  hover like a helicopter fly backwards like a hummingbird, fly straight up, down and on either side. What is mind blowing is the fact that it can do this while flapping its wings a mere 30 times a minute while mosquitoes and houseflies need to flap their wings 600 and 1000 times a minute respectively.

Defeat of Self Created Illusions
The dragonfly exhibits iridescence both on its wings as well as on its body. Iridescence is the property of an object to show itself in different colors depending on the angle and polarization of light falling on it.

Focus on living 'IN' the moment
The dragonfly normally lives most of its life as a nymph or an immature. It flies only for a fraction of its life and usually not more than a few months. This adult dragonfly does it all in these few months and leaves nothing to be desired. This ability lets you live your life without regrets like the great dragonfly.

The opening of one's eyes
The eyes of the dragonfly are one of the most amazing and awe inspiring sights.

Dragon Eggs - Crystal

I bought some river washed quartz Dragon's eggs many years ago in the crystal shop next to the crystal museum in Tintagel, Cornwall, they had the most brilliant collection. Sadly the shop and museum have closed down now but I think that they do still sell crystal etc online, but that is not nearly so magical as seeing, feeling and touching these items or talking to the owner. The owner gifted me a piece of golden calcite when I mentioned my solar plexus was blocked and required clearing, it certainly worked.

Quartz Dragon eggs are usually found in the rivers of Brazil, one side is sliced off and highly polished for scrying. Quartz is said to heal and cleanse spaces, energies and people. It is also believed to amplify and channel energy, I consider quartz to be a great healer helping especially those in pain. A single, highly polished facet offers a 'window' into the interior of the crystal. Dragon Eggs are also known as Emma Eggs or Seer Stones. I have also seen Dragon's eggs offered in rose quartz, amethyst, citrine, tiger's eye and labradorite but I suspect that most of these have been formed into an egg shape by machine rather than naturally in a river.

Meningitis Symptoms

Meningitis and septicaemia are very dangerous and can kill in hours.

Meningitis means swelling of the lining around the brain and spinal cord. Septicaemia is blood poisoning caused by the same germs. Meningitis and septicaemia can occur together or separately.

People who are faced with meningitis and septicaemia have to act fast to save a life - a race against time.

  • Meningitis and septicaemia can be hard to recognise at first. Symptoms can appear in any order, but the first symptoms are usually fever, vomiting, headache and feeling unwell, just like many mild illnesses
  • There are symptoms that are more specific to meningitis and septicaemia and less common in milder illnesses. Limb pain and cold hands and feet often appear earlier than a rash, neck stiffness, photophobia and confusion.
  • Not everyone gets all these symptoms
  • Septicaemia can occur with or without meningitis
  • In some cases of meningitis, a rash may not appear

In memory of my 17 year old daughter Lucie

Lucie died on Valentines Day of meningitis in 1994 the day before my birthday. She did not have the typical rash and we did not have the chance to get her to hospital, she died in her sleep.

Lucie was born in the year of the Fire Dragon.
