Aura Reading

 Fall seven times,

stand up eight.

Greetings!

Every New Year I sort out what has worked for me and what hasn't over the past year.  I then plan for the year ahead dropping what does not serve me and welcoming whatever feels interesting and exciting. I started silver smithing last September and have completed my first sterling silver item and will be designing and making more this year. I very much look forward to continuing with my glass fusing which I love. I plan to register my own hallmark with the London Assay office.  I've been up dating all my websites especially my symbolic Jewellery and Amulet website www.amuletshealingstones.com  More to follow as I find the time to make more individual and unique items from silver, crystal and glass.

Check out the free gift for all orders and the offer of a free gemstone heart pendant or Indian glass necklace on orders over £10.  All prices include postage and packing.

There is now a Newsletter Archive with a link from each of my websites.

Recipe For A Wholesome New Year

Take twelve months and bless them,

So that they may be cleansed of all

Bitterness, greed, fault-finding and fear.

Divide each section into one portion for each day,

So that your store will last you a whole year.

And then, throughout the coming year,

Every day serve one portion consisting of:

Equal parts of labour, joy and humour,

Three heaped tablespoons of optimism,

One teaspoon of tolerance and

One grain of mirth.

Don't forget to add a generous pinch of tact and

Last but not least pour lots of love over all of it.

When ready for serving,

Garnish with bunches of kindness and attentiveness.

Serve daily with cheerfulness,

A refreshing cup of tea and a blessing.

Mother of the great German poet

Happy New Year!

With love and special blessings

Full Moon

Next Full Moon - Monday 9th January 07:31

Dark of the Moon - Sunday 22nd January

New Moon - Monday 23rd January 07:40

Chinese New Year 23rd January 2012 to 9th February 2013

Water Dragons - Years 1952 and 2012

We come into the year of the Water Dragon on Monday 23rd January with the full moon. Water calms the Dragon's fire. Water Dragons are able to see things from other points of view. They don't have the need to always be right. Their decisions, if well-researched, are usually better since they allow other's to become involved.

How are the elements applied to each year?  Simply by the years ending in:-

2 or 3 = Water

6 or 7 = Fire     4 or 5 = Wood

0 or 1 = Metal      8 or 9 = Earth

Wood gives birth to Fire, which gives birth to Earth, which give birth to Metal, which gives birth to Water, which in turn gives birth to Wood.

Transformational Telephone Consultations

Is it time to move on by clearing blockages and old social programming? Sometimes we have no idea how good we can feel until we decide to work on our self to transform our being.

The charge is £35 for however long it takes, usually at least an hour to two hours. Not available on a Sunday and daytime hours preferred.  I specialise in spiritual matters of ANY kind no matter how serious, and I do mean of any kind, also trauma counselling, relationship and health issues.  For more details and to book a consultation check out.

The Radish

Radish

A Modern Herbal - Mrs M Grieve

Written in the early 1900's

This month I'm featuring the humble radish, so quick and easy to grow and a wide colour range. I strongly believe that a diet with a large variety of wholefoods is one of the best ways to give our bodies the nutrients required for good health.

The name of this familiar garden plant is suggested by its colour, being derived from the Saxon, rude, rudo, or reod (ruddy), or from the Sanskrit rudhira, meaning blood. The genus is distinguished by its elongated pod, which has no longitudinal partition when ripe, but contains several seeds separated by a pithy substance filling the pod.

The actual plant is unknown in a wild state, but is supposed to have come from Southern Asia, and may be descended from the wild Raphanus raphanistrum of the Mediterranean shores, the long roots developing seeds sown in a loose soil, and the turniprooted kinds in a stiff soil. In the days of the Pharaohs, the Radish was extensively cultivated in Egypt, but apparently it did not reach Britain until A.D. 1548. Gerard mentions four varieties as being recognized in 1597. The leaves are rough and partly divided into segments, the outer one being larger and broader than the rest. The flower stem grows to about 3 feet in height, bearing medium-sized flowers that vary in colour from white to pale violet, with stronglymarked, dark veins. Structurally, it resembles the turnip, as the swollen, fleshy portion is really a stem which gradually passes downwards into the real root.

Many kinds are named, the best known being (1) turnip-rooted, both red and white, including the white and black Spanish kinds; (2) oliveshaped, including the white, scarlet, and French breakfast forms; (3) the long, tapering varieties, like Long Red and Lady's Finger. The flesh is white, crisp, and tender, not specially nourishing, but valued as an antiscorbutic because of its quantity of nitrous juice. When too large for eating raw, they can be steamed for half an hour and served like asparagus. They should be well washed, but never peeled except when preparing the juice for medicinal purposes; in dry weather the bed should be watered the day before they are pulled. The young, green, seed-pods may be used for pickling, alone or with other vegetables, and are considered a fair substitute for capers.

Constituents

Phenyl-ethyl isothiocyanite, a pungent, volatile oil, and an amylclytic enzyme.

Medicinal Action and Uses

Radishes are an excellent food remedy for stone, gravel and scorbutic conditions. The juice has been used in the treatment of cholelithiasis as an aid in preventing the formation of biliary calculi. The expressed juice of white or black Spanish radishes is given in increasing doses of from 1/2 to 2 cupfuls daily. The 2 cupfuls are continued for two or three weeks. Then the dose is decreased until 1/2 cupful is taken three times a week for three or four more weeks. The treatment may be repeated by taking 1 cupful at the beginning, then 1/2 daily, and later, 1/2 every second day.

The colouring matter is recommended as a sensitive indicator in alkalimetry.

Cree Storytelling

Storytelling is an oral tradition passed on from one generation to another. The stories are memorized and repeated, sometimes changing each time they are told. The special stories about the origins of sacred ceremonies, and especially the Creation legend, are told with great precision. The stories of the Cree incorporate all that life incorporates, accepting good and evil, cruelty and beauty, crudeness and fancy equally, as part of the world.

Storytellers are judged according to their eloquence, and their ability to improvise and improve stories for entertainment. They are welcomed wherever they go. Some people who are not storytellers by trade also have the ability to memorize and invent stories.

The Cree tell long stories about personal hunting adventures. The narrator uses gestures and movements to illustrate the story. The movements of the animals, the stealthy approach of the hunter, the aim, the shot, the cry of the animal or the pursuit are all acted out as the tale unfolds.

Stories are used to entertain all ages, to instruct the young, and to preserve history, rituals and beliefs. They are told during the long cold winter nights when everyone craved stimulation, wanting something to spark their imagination.

The Cree belief that stories based on fiction cannot be told during the summer is shared by many nations. Summer is the season when people are supposed to use their time as well as possible. People who narrate such stories in the summer risk having their lives destroyed by lizards, who would come to suck their blood. It was believed that toads or snakes would creep into the beds of people who wasted precious time telling stories before the first snow fell. This type of punishment is also reserved for narrators of the endless cycles about the superhuman chameleon-like joker Wisakecahk, a revered character in the Cree storytelling tradition. During the summer, spirits are about and may take revenge on people who tell stories that are damaging to them. Animals may also overhear and be offended by the stories when they are roaming in the summer.

Stories lose meaning when translated from their original language. Meaning is also lost to people of other cultures. There are images, suggestions and associations in these stories that mean nothing to the outsider but are apparent in the minds of the Cree. The connection to nature, to the Great Spirit and to other peoples is part of Cree culture and is reflected in the stories that are told to children from the time they are born.

Beetle or Ladybug

 Ladybird

The Ladybug is associated with spirituality and religious devotion. The name Ladybug originated in Europe during the Middle Ages, when insects were destroying the crops. Catholic farmers were said to have prayed to the Virgin Mary for help. Soon after, Ladybugs appeared and began eating the pests and saved the crops from destruction. The farmers began to call the Ladybugs "the Beetles of Our Lady" and eventually they were known as Lady Beetles.

The Ladybug's red wings are said to represent the Virgin's cloak and the black spots her joys and sorrows. The Ladybug is widely considered a symbol of luck and is seen as a good omen when it comes a calling. In Sweden, it is said that if one lands on a young woman's hand, she will soon get married. In France, it is said that if you are ill when one lands on you, it will fly away with your illness.

Ladybugs are also considered to be symbols of fire and the Sun. Ladybug teaches life is short and it teaches to let go of ones' worries and fears, to trust in spirit and enjoy life. It brings the gifts of renewal and regeneration. The message of the Ladybug could be asking you to "Let go and let God".

Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Mary Elizabeth Frye - 1932

This poem was sent to me when my 17 year old daughter died on Valentines Day of meningitis in 1994 the day before my birthday.  It touched me so much that her father and I had part of it engraved on her gravestone, in the hope that it would be a comfort to her friends.
