Aura Reading

Never regret.

If it's good, it's wonderful.

If it's bad, it's experience.

  Victoria Holt

Greetings!

November already, we are certainly in the midst of the damp and dark, but hey, we will soon have the shortest day and days will get progressively longer. The Naturopathic Iridology Workshop is now full but there is still the Gift Fayre on Saturday 12th November from 9am - 12.45pm and 5 - 6pm.  Details below.

Check out the petrol tips below if you would like to get the most miles per litre possible and save some money.

I have decided to start offering telephone consultations again. This works very well for all concerned. Recently I've  been shown  that there is still a great need and I can easily fit this work in as necessary.

There is now a Newsletter Archive with a link from each of my websites.

Many Blessings   Liz

Telephone Consultations

Due to demand I am now offering telephone consultations again.  I work extremely well in this way. I am happy to ring landlines for the consultation but those with mobile phones would need to phone me. The way it works is that the person would make the initial contact by email and if a consultation is required the fee would be paid via Paypal. People don't need to have a Paypal account as credit and debit cards can be used.  Otherwise payment is by cheque. Once payment is made an appointment time will be agreed.  Often appointments can be arranged very quickly if urgent assistance is required.  The charge is £35 for however long it takes, usually at least an hour to around two hours. Not available on a Sunday and daytime hours preferred.  I specialise in spiritual matters of ANY kind, and I do mean of any kind, also counselling, relationship and health issues.  Check out my main website for some of my professional qualifications.

The Fox

Fox

Some of the best known classic fox literature was written over 2,500 years ago by Aesop. His fables told stories about various intelligent animals, and were used to convey a moral point to the reader. Because of their craftiness, beauty, and solitary nature, foxes figured prominently in these fables whenever deceit, pride, or individuality was necessary to the story. One such fable is The Fox and the Grapes. In it, a red fox finds itself in a vineyard and tries to feed on the grapes hanging on the vines. Despite its best efforts, the fox just can“t reach the fruit and gives up in frustration. He saves face and consoles himself by saying the grapes were probably sour any ways. The moral of the story is that people often badmouth things they can“t have. Like many other of Aesop“s fables, the story gave rise to a popular expression (sour grapes) or proverb. With the possible exception of the lion, few other animals are mentioned as often by Aesop as the fox is.

Fennel - A Modern Herbal - Margaret Grieve

Fennel

One of my favourite vegetables especially the seeds.

Fennel is a beautiful plant. It has a thick, perennial root-stock, stout stems, 4 to 5 feet or more in height, erect and cylindrical, bright green and so smooth as to seem polished, much branched bearing leaves cut into the very finest of segments. The bright golden flowers, produced in large, flat terminal umbels, with from thirteen to twenty rays, are in bloom in July and August.

In the kitchen garden this naturally ornamental, graceful plant, generally has its stems cut down to secure a constant crop of green leaves for flavouring and garnishing, so that the plant is seldom seen in the same perfection as in the wild state. In the original wild condition, it is variable as to size, habit, shape and colour of leaf, number of rays in the flower-head or umbel, and shape of fruit, but it has been under cultivation for so long that there are now several well-marked species. The Common Garden Fennel (F. Capillaceum or officinale) is distinguished from its wild relative (F. vulgare) by having much stouter, taller, tubular and larger stems, and less divided leaves, but the chief distinction is that the leaf-stalks form a curved sheath around the stem, often even as far as the base of the leaf above. The flower-stalks, or pedicels, of the umbels are also sturdier, and the fruits, 1/4 to 1/2 inch long, are double the size of the wild ones.

Fennel will thrive anywhere, and a plantation will last for years. It is easily propagated by seeds, sown early in April in ordinary soil. It likes plenty of sun and is adapted to dry and sunny situations, not needing heavily manured ground, though it will yield more on rich stiff soil. From 4 1/2 to 5 lb. of seed are sown per acre, either in drills, 15 inches apart, lightly, just covered with soil and the plants afterwards thinned to a similar distance, or sewn thinly in a bed and transplanted when large enough. The fruit is heavy and a crop of 15 cwt. per acre is an average yield.

The roots of Fennel were formerly employed in medicine, but are generally inferior in virtues to the fruit, which is now the only portion recognized by any of the Pharmacopoeias.

The cessation of the supply of Fennel fruits from the Continent during the War led to its being grown more extensively here, any crop produced being almost certain to sell well.

There are several varieties of Fennel fruit known in commerce - sweet or Roman Fennel, German or Saxon Fennel, wild or bitter Fennel, Galician Russian and Roumanian Fennel, Indian, Persian and Japanese. The fruits vary very much in length, breadth, taste and other characters, and are of very different commercial value.

The most esteemed Fennel fruit vary from three to five lines in length, are elliptical, slightly curved, somewhat obtuse at the ends and pale greyish green in colour. Wild fruits are short, dark coloured and blunt at their ends, and have a less agreeable flavour and odour than those of sweet Fennel - they are not official.

Fennel fruits are frequently distinguished into 'shorts' and 'longs' in commerce, the latter being the most valued.

The odour of Fennel seed is fragrant, its taste, warm, sweet and agreeably aromatic. It yields its virtues to hot water, but more freely to alcohol. The essential oil may be separated by distillation with water.

For medicinal use, the fruits of the cultivated Fennel, especially those grown in Saxony, are alone official, as they yield the most volatile oil. Saxon fruits are greenish to yellowish-brown in colour, oblong, smaller and straighter than the French or Sweet Fennel (F. dulce). This French Fennel, known also as Roman Fennel, is distinguished by its greater length, more oblong form, yellowish-green colour and sweet taste; its anise-like odour is also stronger. It is cultivated in the neighbourhood of Nimes, in the south of France, but yields comparatively little oil, which has no value medicinally.

On account of its aromatic and carminative properties, Fennel fruit is chiefly used medicinally with purgatives to allay their tendency to griping and for this purpose forms one of the ingredients of the well-known compound Liquorice Powder. Fennel water has properties similar to those of anise and dill water: mixed with sodium bicarbonate and syrup, these waters constitute the domestic 'Gripe Water,' used to correct the flatulence of infants. Volatile oil of Fennel has these properties in concentration.

Fennel tea, formerly also employed as a carminative, is made by pouring half a pint of boiling water on a teaspoonful of bruised Fennel seeds.

Syrup prepared from Fennel juice was formerly given for chronic coughs.

Fennel is also largely used for cattle condiments.

It is one of the plants which is said to be disliked by fleas, and powdered Fennel has the effect of driving away fleas from kennels and stables. The plant gives off ozone most readily.

HERINGS LAW OF CURE

I have decided to reproduce this to give a greater understanding of how the body can and does heal itself given the chance. Thanks to Amma for reminding me.

Constantine Herring lived in the 17th century and his observations are now known as Herrings Law Of Cure. HLOC has stood the test of time and is really the only way to track the course of chronic disease. A summary of HLOC states that

Disease leaves the body from top to bottom, from inside to outside, from the greater organs to the lesser organs and in the reverse order of their appearance.

It is important for a patient to understand the course a disease is taking, for two main reasons :-

 (1) If a person is using a suppressive therapy, and deeper symptoms appear, it is important to understand that deterioration has occurred, and the faulty treatment should be stopped to prevent further decline.

(2) When proper treatment is used, the patient should realise that they may re-visit symptom patterns from an earlier stage of their life, if the condition was not fully corrected or suppressed by a previous treatment.

This situation is known as the reverse progression of symptoms,  and will continue until all the unresolved disease conditions are resolved, even though some may go back to early childhood. Basically we are looking at tissues releasing accumulated toxicity and begining to function properly again.

Herrings law provides us with a symptom hierarchy, which is essential if we are to assess in which direction the diease is moving. HLOC also helps us understand the incredible integrity that the body has for survival.

This concept for the cure of chronic disease is a most fascinating aspect of natural therapy. Such a concept is completely rejected by all but a few allopaths both conventional and alternative. This rejection is to be expected, of course, because if accepted, it must also be accepted that most of the methods used are injurious to the patient in the long run.

A hypothetical example, but unfortunately not uncommon. A classic sequence of disease, would be the first imbalance showing in the bowel, followed by the skin, followed by the lungs and finally reaching head or mind level. We see the disease moving in an upward direction and from lesser to more vital organs.

If a patient comes with asthma or another lung imbalance and he/she is properly treated, they may at some point in the future present a skin imbalance such as eczema or an IBS symptom. This should be viewed as positive as the course of the disease is going from more important to lesser organs.

However if our patient becomes depressive after therapy we can be sure that the treatment is faulty, as the course of the disease is moving from lung to mind, moving from a lesser organ to greater organ and moving in a upward direction.

THE BODY WILL ALWAYS DO THE BEST IT CAN AT ANY POINT IN TIME.

It is our responsibility to provide the body with the environment, and let the body do what only it can do, HEAL ITSELF.

You Are Old, Father William

by Lewis Carroll  (Kids!!)

"You are old, father William," the young man said,

"And your hair has become very white;

And yet you incessantly stand on your head

Do you think, at your age, it is right?

"In my youth," father William replied to his son,

"I feared it might injure the brain;

But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none,

Why, I do it again and again."

"You are old," said the youth, "as I mentioned before,

And you have grown most uncommonly fat;

Yet you turned a back-somersault in at the door

Pray what is the reason for that?"

"In my youth," said the sage, as he shook his grey locks,

"I kept all my limbs very supple

By the use of this ointment one shilling a box

Allow me to sell you a couple?"

"You are old," said the youth, "and your jaws are too weak

For anything tougher than suet;

Yet you finished the goose, with the bones and the beak

Pray, how did you manage to do it?"

"In my youth," said his father, "I took to the law,

And argued each case with my wife;

And the muscular strength, which it gave to my jaw,

Has lasted the rest of my life."

"You are old," said the youth, "one would hardly suppose

That your eye was as steady as ever;

Yet you balanced an eel on the end of your nose

What made you so awfully clever?"

"I have answered three questions, and that is enough,"

Said his father. "Don't give yourself airs!

Do you think I can listen all day to such stuff?

Be off, or I'll kick you down stairs.

PETROL TIPS - info!!

With Petrol expected to reach £2 per litre by end of 2011 these tips that I received from a friend might come in handy.

TIPS ON PUMPING PETROL

I don't know what you guys are paying for petrol.... I am paying up to £1.35 to £1.50 per litre. My line of work  is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here  are some tricks to get more of your money's  worth for every Litre:

Here  at the Shell Pipeline where I work ,  we deliver about 4 million litres in a 24-hour  period .. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and petrol, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 Litres.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the petrol, when it gets warmer petrol expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your litre is not exactly a litre. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on low mode, thereby minimizing the vapours that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapour return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapour. Those vapours are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your Petrol tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is the more Petrol you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space.  Petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine.  Petrol storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the Petrol and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every litre is actually the exact amount.

Another  reminder, if there is a petrol truck pumping  into the storage tanks when you stop to buy  Petrol, DO NOT fill up; most likely  the petrol is being stirred up as the Petrol is  being delivered, and you might pick up some of  the dirt that normally settles on the  bottom.
