Day of Action 2010

The Problem: The students, teachers and families of Flagler and Volusia County Schools are hurting. The recent economic downturn and budget shortfalls have resulted in local schools struggling to provide to teachers and students the tools they need.

Helping Teachers and Students Succeed: The United Way of Volusia-Flagler has teamed up with the Flagler County Education Foundation, Volusia County Schools, Wal-Mart and Office Depot to help teachers and students succeed. Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. It's essential to getting and keeping a job with a livable wage and health benefits.

STUFF THE BUS DRIVE: Throughout the month of June local area businesses, organizations, families, churches and individuals will be asked to give, advocate and volunteer to help our children. Then, help us stuff the bus on Saturday, June 19th--our 2nd Annual Day of Action Stuff the Bus Event! Donations will be distributed through the STUFF Bus in Flagler County and to teachers in 15 of Volusia County Title 1 schools.

ARE YOU READY FOR ANOTHER ROUND OF "TARGET PARKING"?
Through the continued generosity of Target on ISB & Williamson, United Way will once again be monitoring the parking lots during the July 2010 races!

This has always been a VERY successful fundraiser for United Way, but it can only be done with your help! We raised over $37,000 this past February--thanks to the support of over 100 volunteers over the course of those 5 days.

We'll need volunteers once again to help us hand out parking passes, help run the lot, directing traffic, spreading the LIVE UNITED and United Way message, and assist with set up & break down.

To register as a Target Parking Volunteer or for more information, please click here or call The Volunteer Center at 253-0563.

STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR
 OUR UPCOMING TRAINING!!

I
In preparation for hurricane season, United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties' Volunteer Center  (UWVFCVC) is conducting a mock disaster exercise Saturday, June 12th, beginning at 9am at the United Way office.

The purpose of the training exercise is to set up a mock volunteer reception center and walk-through the steps of registering unaffiliated volunteers who would come to Volusia County offering help following a disaster. This drill is largely intended to allow disaster volunteers to practice the process and will also identify areas where UWVFCVC can enhance procedures.
