Volunteers are the
Heart and Soul of United Way
You share your time, your expertise and your passion. You inspire us and the people around you. And this community is better because of you. That's really what it means to LIVE UNITED. In celebration of National Volunteer Week 2010, United Way salutes the people who don't just wear the shirt, they live it.
Thanks to you, we're creating opportunities for a good life for all. |

Daily Points of Light Awards
Honoring Local Volunteers
Volunteers from Volusia and Flagler Counties have been honored with national volunteer recognition. The Daily Points of Light Awards are being presented in honor of service activities, which exemplify the best of volunteerism, a sense of caring, and responsibility for others that connects citizens and solves community problems. Your local United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties had the honor of presenting nine local honorees with their official certificates from the Points of Light Institute.
This past year's recipients were honored on Monday, to kick off National Volunteer Week. This season's awardees are:
· Susie Marsh, Daily Point of Light Number: 3999 - 06/02/09 · Ryan M. Rinaldo, Number: 4008 - 06/15/09 · Dana Allen, 4010 - 06/17/09 · K-9 Search, 4020 - 07/01/09 · "Grandma" Mary Patterson, 4092 - 10/09/09 · Jeffrey Ronald Zolkowski, 4094 - 10/13/09 · Nayda Cuevas, 4095 - 10/14/09 · Ida Giammanco, 4097 - 10/16/09 · Youth Works, 4109 - 11/03/09

Each weekday, one volunteer or volunteer effort nationwide receives a Daily Point of Light Award. More than 100 million people in this country volunteer their time, talent and energy to help others, and in Volusia and Flagler Counties, the United Way Volunteer Center coordinates the efforts of more thousands of volunteers to improve the lives of thousands of needy people in our community.
"Points of Light are the soul of America. They are ordinary people who reach beyond themselves to the lives of those in need, bringing hope and opportunity, friendship and care," says former president George Bush, founder of the Daily Points of Light Award program.
