Day of Caring Logo

We are just one week away from our 3rd Annual Day of Caring event. On this day, volunteers join United Way Partner Agencies to work on one-time service projects to achieve a common goal that ultimately betters our community.
 
Join us as we kick off the campaign season and wish our Day of Caring volunteers well with a fun pep rally and breakfast! Friday, September 11, 2009- 8:30 am-10am, at Salvation Army, 1555 LPGA Blvd, Daytona Beach, FL 32117. Please email kwilliams@unitedwayvfc.org with your RSVP or call 386-366-9041.
 
This event continues to grow now with 18 scheduled projects and this year have engaged 11 new corporate partners in service!!
 
Here's the list of what we'll see throughout Flagler and Volusia counties next week: 
 
International Speedway Corporation has adopted two projects this year, helping to complete the Kitchen renovations at the Center for the Visually Impaired and building a storage unit for UCP of East Central Florida.

VOTRAN has signed on to assist with a Talent Search Cookout with the clients of Community Outreach Services in DeLand.

Kresge, Platt & Abare, CPAs in Palm Coast are going to help provide much needed respite for the caregivers of special needs children tonight with Joey's Gift, an Easter Seals Program in Bunnell.

Teledyne ODI will be tackling a classroom renovation at the Easter Seals Daytona Beach Campus.

Randstad USA, another new partner will be refurbishing the porch at the Family Renew's Daytona Beach Facility.

Bright House Networks assisting Halifax Urban Ministries with some renovation projects.

Bank of America has been collecting toiletries and items not covered by food stamps for the Jewish Federation and will be delivering and sorting it today in Ormond Beach.

Canvas Church, Total Vision Eye Centers, All Quality Products and H&H Restoration have teamed up for a true day of caring at the Neighborhood Center in DeLand, remodeling, rebuilding a fence and deck, painting and cleaning out the facility.

United Way's own Diane Olsen and Krewe de Coeur will be sorting food for Second Harvest Food Bank.

Fifth Third bank, Energizer Personal Care and Vystar Credit Union, all new to Day of Caring and will be working together to help set-up the Vince Carter Sanctuary for Stewart-Marchman-ACT Behavioral Healthcare's conference that weekend.

Publix also adopting two projects this year-one team will be refurbishing a deck for Stewart-Marchman-ACT Behavioral Healthcare's Project WARM and another Publix team out landscaping at The House Next Door.
 
UPS signing on this year for outdoor maintenance and preservation with The ARC of Volusia.

Surprise! RBC Bank hosting a special Birthday party for the clients at UCP of East Central Florida in Bunnell.

Center for Business Excellence, The Chiles Academy, Henkels & McCoy, SaSo Training Solutions, Paxen Learning will be laying mulch at UCP of East Central Florida in Daytona Beach. Where ITT Corporation will also be painting and UNO's/Ramada Speedway will be cooking and serving up lunch for everyone.
 
September 11th, a National Day of Service & Remembrance, also marks the culmination of President Obama's United We Serve charge. This summer, the President is calling on all Americans to participate in our nation's recovery and renewal by serving our communities and to help lay a new foundation for growth.

It's that time of the year again and our local non-profits need your help!!
 
Make A Difference Day 2009 is October 24th!
 
Known as the "national day of doing good" Make A Difference Day is a national effort designed to mobilize citizens in communities across the country in volunteer service-Neighbors helping Neighbors. Created and sponsored nationally by USA Weekend, this is the 19th Annual Make A Difference Day.
 
Thousands of people, young and old, are committed to spending Saturday, October 24th making a difference through service projects in Volusia and Flagler Counties.
 
We have an incredible variety of projects this year, ranging from fundraising walks to donation drives of those desperately-needed supplies for foster families, to home builds and rebuilds, and of course our traditional landscaping and painting projects.
 
New projects are being posted daily.
Please also keep in mind that projects are adopted on a first-come-first-serve basis until the maximum number of volunteers requested has been confirmed. So, get your forms in early!

Help us show our community what it means to LIVE UNITED! We look forward to your participation in Make A Difference Day 2009.
