It was an exciting day for volunteerism as over 400 people gathered at the Ocean Center to celebrate the 2008 Outstanding Volunteers of the Year: Those Who Truly Live United. The annual event is presented by the Volunteer Center of the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties and Bright House Networks and coincides with National Volunteer Week, United Way's Week of Thanks and Florida's Volunteer Month. United Way Helps to Bring in Hundreds of Thousands in Federal Grant Funds and Awards. |
The United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties is very please that we have been able to help bring in hundreds of thousands of new federal grant dollars into Volusia and Flagler Counties.
Assets for Independence Program - $150,000
The Community Foundation of Volusia and Flagler, a division of the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties was recently awarded a $150,000 grant which the Foundation will also match to bring the total up to $300,000 to help families purchase their first home. The program hopes to be able to help 64 new home buyers by encouraging them to save and then receive matching grant funds.
Emergency Food and Shelter Grants- $216,526 Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the United Way will be assisting the in distribution of $183,701.00 in Volusia County and $32,825.00 in Flagler County to support Emergency Food and Shelter Programs.
Volunteer Center Continues to Succeed - $10,000
A few years ago, the Volunteer Center was recognized for the incredible job that they do to change thousands of lives in one special day each year. That day is Make a Difference Day which is held each October and locally draw over 7,000 volunteers annually. The Volunteer Center was once again honored for their continued success with the prestigious Encore Award presented by USAWeekend. This award gives the Volunteer Center additional national recognition and came with a $10,000 grant that will be used to help organize volunteer activities and recognition. |
