Greetings to our
Friends of The Volunteer Center, |
2009 is well underway and the need for volunteer support continues to increase at a tremendous rate!
As a recent Stevenson, Inc. Publication's Volunteer Insider reminds us, we all have a variety of connections and circles of influence that are unique to each of us: places of worship, clubs, places of employment and more. We ask that you consider using your unique connecting points to identify and invite friends and colleagues to join you in your volunteer work. Don't be shy about extending an invitation to volunteer.
A reminder to those of you who itemize your tax deductions--talk to your accountants about deducting your volunteer mileage. Yes, according to the IRS, if you Itemize instead of taking the Standard Deductions you may be able to deduct, up to 14 cents a mile, your mileage to and from service events. Also if you've made a financial contribution to an organization like United Way, you can deduct that as well as long as you have a record of that contribution.
Thank you for your continued support and encouraging your friends, families and co-workers to give, advocate and volunteer...to LIVE UNITED in '09.
