2007 Outstanding Volunteers of the Year Honored by United Way |
|
The Volunteer Center of the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties and presenting sponsor Bright House Networks are proud to once again recognize outstanding achievement within the voluntary sector. Our annual Outstanding Volunteers of the Year Awards program salutes those individuals and organizations whose caring and compassion for their community has enhanced the quality of life for others in both Flagler and Volusia Counties.
This year's luncheon was a huge success with over 500 people attending to honor the more than 72 nominees. The nominees showcased the true diversity of volunteers and volunteer activities.
Faith Coleman, a cancer survivor who started the Flagler Free Clinic, received the top honor as being named the "Outstanding Volunteer of the Year." Information on the other nominees and winners can be found here. |
Local Volunteer Helps Secure Grant for Disaster Prepardness
|
|
Thanks to the outstanding volunteer work of John Heidel, the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties was awarded a $2,500 grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation.
This grant has been earmarked to cover some of the initial startup costs of the new United in Disasters program. The United in Disasters initiative is a way to help our community prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
This could not have come at a better time considering hurricane season starts June 1st. The grant money will help to fund the supplies and materials need for Volunteer Reception Centers (VRC). In the case of a disaster a VRC is set up as a central location for volunteers to sign up to help. Find Out More...
