| Greetings!
Welcome to the first issue of our monthly e-Newsletter!
Since 1941, our United Way has evolved to match our community's needs and values. We mobilize local resources- human, technical and financial -to address the root causes of needs. And as part of our evolution, we want to stay abreast of global trends by creating an electronic newsletter where you and our community are the principal players.
We ask you to share your stories of how the United Way of Volusia-Flagler has touched your life, whether you were in a leadership role, received a service through us or were involved with our volunteer center, allocations panel or workplace campaign.
Because, after all, the United Way of Volusia-Flagler is about you, and making a positive impact on the lives of people in our community.
Sincerely,
Ray Salazar, President |
| United Way of Volusia-Flagler selected as the 2008 Enterprise Award recipient |
Our United Way was honored on January 23rd as the recipient of the 2008 Enterprise Award by the Daytona Beach Chamber. The Enterprise Award is given "to an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to the quality, vitality and growth of our community," said Ed Williams, chamber chairman.
Tom Dargan, United Way's chairman, and president of Floridian Bank accepted the award on behalf of the United Way. And as a way to show the 900+ attendees the impact of the United Way in this community, Dargan invited to stand up all of those that run and/or have run a campaign in their workplaces, current and former Board Members, current and past volunteers, partner agencies and people that have benefited from United Way's funded programs, and an significant crowd
stood up, demonstrating once more, that United Way has a strong presence in our communities.

| Speedweek Parking on Target |
For another year, the target store at International Speedway Boulevard donated their parking space to the United Way of Volusia-Flagler. Target representatives contact us every speedweek, and let us administer their parking space.
Parking is crucial during these events, and because of the location of this particular store, their parking lot becomes a very appealing venue for race fans. So to assure their customers' pleasant shopping experience, and contribute to the community where they live and work, Target allows us to use most of their parking space, as a fundraiser to support our Community Fund.
Dozens of volunteers showed up to support United Way Staff. From Board members, to partner agency staff and Embry Riddle's Pikes, volunteers helped us to maintain a good flow during this important fundraiser.
Parking spots were sold at $40.00 each, which added up to $49,000 and 100% of the proceedings went to us.
Thank you Target and Volunteers!

| My cause promotion |
SunTrust Bank is extending its My Cause promotion to help organizations like ours continue to raise funds through donations. The promotion gives individuals a unique opportunity to reinvest in their communities and support their charities of choice.
If you haven't had a chance to participate in the promotion, you still have time. Now through March29, 2008, you have the option to either have SunTrust give $100 to the nonprofit organization of your choice, or receive $50 when you open a new SunTrust Personal or Business Checking account during the promotion period, accept a new SunTrust Visa® Check Card, make any purchase with the new card, and submit a completed online redemption form by May 15, 2008. Also, there's another exciting program element that has been added to the promotion, SunPoints® for Charity, which can help us with ongoing fundraising efforts.
Those who currently bank with SunTrust and have a SunTrust Visa Signature® or SunTrust Platinum Visa with SunTrust Rewards® Credit Card,* or SunTrust Visa Check Card enrolled in the SunTrust Rewards® program** can donate their SunPoints (SunTrust's reward points system) to their charity of choice! Donations can be made in $25, $50, or $100 denominations. The more purchases you make using these applicable cards, the more points you can turn into charitable gifts throughout the year.
If you plan to take advantage of the My Cause promotion and open a new checking account by March 29, we encourage you to consider donating your $100 to our organization. And once you receive your applicable card, or if you already have one, turn your SunTrust Rewards into donations as well.
We hope that you will continue to spread the word about the My Cause promotion and the ongoing SunPoints for Charity program to your friends, family, and personal and business contacts. The more awareness we can generate among our supporters, the greater the opportunity to increase our fundraising easily and effortlessly.
We are thankful that you would consider us as your cause and appreciate your continued support.

What began as the " Daytona Beach Community Fund" in 1941 has grown into today's United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties, raising funds for our partner agencies. There is no other charity like United Way. We combine over 50 fund-raisers into one, saving the community-and our agencies-time and money that is better spent helping people. We constantly bring local volunteers and community leaders together to identify and solve local problems, and one of the ways to reach our communities is through this Newsletter.
Please feel free to contact me at ghart@unitedwayvfc.org regarding the content, whether you want to comment or collaborate, and/or if you want to be part of our organization, by donating time, money or talent.
Sincerely,
Gigi Hart Asst. Campaign Director/Marketing |

| Why the United Way? |
|
Because dollars designated to the community impact fund, support outcome-focused programs within our communities, helping individuals and families secure their most basic needs. We know that these critical needs must first be met in order to move people from survival to the path towards economic self-sufficiency and security. Your contribution may also support programs and partnerships that address the underlying causes of community conditions and create comprehensive solutions for lasting change.
