5 tips to tell your story

We keep hearing that we need to tell stories in our business writing  to entertain, build credibility, open minds and change behaviour.

Unless you're a natural storyteller, you're probably thinking "Easier said than done." True.

But after years of telling stories for clients, I've cracked the code. These five tips won't win you a movie deal, but they will power up your objectives.

1.  Lead with the conflict, to draw in your audience.

2.  Immediately introduce a hero who people can identify with.

3.  Describe only details required for character or plot development.

4.  Have the hero surmount obstacles on the way to resolving the conflict.

5.  Set up the point of your story in the introduction, develop it in the plot and hammer it in the conclusion.

If you'd like to learn more about storytelling, check out my posts, listed to the right. More still in  the new edition of Write like you talk--ONLY BETTER, coming to Amazon and e-readers soon..

I was thrilled with the number of readers who asked for a free preview copy after my last newsletter. It should be emailed to them soon. If you'd like one too, let me know.

And don't forget to write like you talk--only better.
