CORVALLIS - The Corvallis Clinic has promoted Information Technology Director Rod Aust to Chief Operations Officer at the mid-Valley's largest independent medical group. With an extensive management background in healthcare, information technology and operations, Aust brings a strategic vision and resources for improving patient care in his new role.

CEO Andrew Perry said that Aust was the clear choice to lead The Corvallis Clinic forward on initiatives such as expanding the area's most advanced electronic health records system and improving customer service.

"Rod Aust is very enthusiastic about the opportunity and we look forward to him bringing that energy and his managerial experience to the position," Perry said.

Aust's leadership at The Corvallis Clinic has been instrumental in integrating technology in an industry that is becoming increasingly dependent on electronic solutions to meet patient needs and lower costs. As a leader in patient satisfaction, The Corvallis Clinic aims to provide convenient access to highly skilled primary and specialty care physicians, and proactively manage chronic conditions. This fall, patients will have access and be able to monitor their health records through a new Web-based patient portal. Aust is guiding many of these projects.

"Everyone is searching for quality improvement in health care," Aust said. "Our focus at The Corvallis Clinic is on optimizing our electronic health records system as a tool to make health care better for our patients."

Aust joined The Corvallis Clinic as Director of Information Technology in 2008. Previously, he was chief information officer at Willamette Education Service District and at the Corvallis School District. Prior to his work in education, Aust led a development team from the Nike golf division.

Aust received a bachelor's degree in education from George Fox University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He served in the U.S. Air Force for six years, and was a distinguished graduate of the NCO Leadership Academy.

Aust succeeds Tricia Julian, who left in June as operations chief.  A search for a new Director of Information Technology to replace Aust is now underway.
