Dear Friend,
July 2010
With over 29,000 kilometres of coastline, it's easy to spot plenty of whales and seabirds. And there's no better time to do it then now. There's 22 species of whales, including the world's largest migrating population of humpbacks currently frolicking in our waters. And flying above them are 35 million seabirds that make their homes near our shores. No wonder they call this place the seabird capital of North America.

Catching a single glimpse of these whales and seabirds is an awe-inspiring experience, and there are so many ways to do it - including a seaside trail, kayak tour or boat tour.

Go at your own pace.
Spend a day in Twillingate, and take in the dramatic shoreline and the Long Point Lighthouse as you wait to catch a glimpse of a whale. And then visit Elliston, which has one of the most accessible puffin sites in North America. Or take a leisurely walk along the East Coast Trail to see towering cliffs, sea stacks, fjords - and of course, whales and seabirds. And if you're looking for more places to see whales and birds, download our list of popular sites, or take a look at some of our birding hot spots.

Make it a getaway.
