Keeping things local is a proud Newfoundland and Labrador tradition-from cooking with local ingredients to fostering homegrown talent, to even turning our own backyards into an outdoor adventure. This fall, taste years of history in one dish, get lost in a simple yarn, and walk fields still echoing with legend.

Gear Up for Autumn Adventures Early fall is a great time to lace up your hiking boots, as the trails dry, and there's still lots of breathtaking scenery and crisp, seasonal air. Explore the East Coast Trail in between Goulds and Bay Bulls to find the Spout-a natural, wave driven freshwater geyser. Gros Morne promises beautiful vistas on the James Callaghan Trail, while taking on Labrador's Boney Shore trail in Red Bay rewards you with an unbeatable view of nearby Saddle Island.

Be a Part of Song, Story and Saga Fall marks the beginning of the indoor art season for local galleries, museums, and theater companies. Hear an unforgettable tale (or three!) at the St. John's Storytelling Circle (Crow's Nest), running till November 12th. These days, you may even stumble onto the set of The Republic of Doyle, a new CBC series currently filming around the city.
Art and history lovers can explore the Rooms, explore the lives of a Newtown merchant family at the Barbour Living Heritage Village, or even wander through the preserved historic buildings at Battle Harbour, once called the 'saltfish capital of Labrador.' Take in an evening with Trinity's Rising Tide Theatre (till October 12th), or head west to the Gros Morne Theatre Festival (till September 19th). After an evening steeped in culture, consider one of our fall packages: romantic getaways, cozy stays at coastal cottages, or chic urban hotels and spas.

Local Ingredients That Say Bon Appétit! It's easy to savor a taste of Newfoundland and Labrador when so many restaurants proudly use fresh, local ingredients. Head to Bacalao in St. John's for an innovative twist on old Newfoundland favourites (like the Caribou Medallions in Partridgeberry Sauce), or visit the Fisher's Loft, Port Rexton (Trinity Bight) to try their delicious Roasted Atlantic Salmon.
Sample the Ice Cloud, signature drink of Java Jacks in Rocky Harbour in Gros Morne National Park, a blend of Iceberg Vodka and cloudberry liqueur. In Central, settle yourself at Nicole's Café (Fogo Island) and order the squid -all caught in the waters of nearby Seldom. Wabush boasts Grenfell Restaurant, home to a succulent duck breast garnished with fresh Labrador berries. But consider these recommendations a guide only-pore over the menu to find the perfect dish that strikes your fancy! Bon appétit!
