Dear Friend,

We consider them our honored dinner guests for the summer: humpbacks, fins, killer whales and potheads flock to our waters to feast on capelin, squid and even codfish. 22 species of whales and dolphins take part in an amazing spectacle that lasts the whole season, performing their annual summer ritual of people-watching. Ever traded looks with a 30-tonne humpback? You'll never forget it.

Between May and September, you can watch them from the sea or from the land. Take a boat tour in places like the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve or Twillingate. Paddle along in a sea kayak at Cape Broyle, Trinity or Bonne Bay. Hike along coastal trails like Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve. See whales from the shore at Signal Hill in St. John's, Cape Spear - Canada's easternmost point - or St. Vincent's beach. For good killer whale country, travel north to St. Anthony and Battle Harbour.

We love hearing your 'Whale Tails'-after your trip, post your stories, videos and photos on our Facebook page or Virtual Scrapbook!
