Icebergs in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Spring Packages in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Newfoundland and Labrador Travel Blog
Dear Friend,
May 2009

Our icebergs have broken off Greenland's glaciers, and can take as long as three years to find our coast. But find it they do, and in numbers that are truly astounding: a good season can see as many as 800 icebergs off our shores.

Iceberg Season is Here!
Experience the wonders of Iceberg Alley - the stretch of shore from the Northern tip of Labrador down to the eastern coast of Newfoundland that's seen more icebergs than any of us can ever claim.

Icebergs are best viewed in the spring and early summer. April and May are the high times for iceberg watching, and by the first week in August, it's a good bet that the last icebergs will be almost melted. Check IcebergFinder for up to date information, or pop into our Travel Blog, where we regularly post sightings.

There are lots of places you can see these mighty migrating marvels from the shore. Popular spots in Newfoundland include Bay Bulls/Witless Bay, St. John's/Cape Spear, Bonavista, Twillingate, La Scie, and St. Anthony. While in Labrador, you'll want to head towards Point Amour, Battle Harbour or Cartwright.

Own a Little Piece of History with Iceberg Products
Many products are now available with history built right into the package. If you're thirsty, refresh yourself with some iceberg bottled water. Want something a little different? Both beer and vodka are now available with iceberg infusions. We may be biased, but there's something particularly refreshing about what you'll find inside.

If you're looking for something truly unusual, why not try an Iceberg Martini, a drink served up with a 15,000 year twist? Read this article in the Globe and Mail or check out these YouTube instructions on how to make one yourself (all you'll need is some Iceberg vodka and a thousand year old chip of ice).

How to View an Iceberg
Nothing beats seeing these mighty icebergs on the open sea. Luckily, Maxxim Vacations has a perfect package ready to get you here and take you out on the ocean. Our tour operators have a knack for answering every question that pops up-and trust us, there'll be lots.

Whether you view from land or shore, you'll want binoculars, a wind or rain jacket and of course, a camera. And remember--you can learn to read the bergs carefully for clues. For example, birds taking flight from an iceberg is a good sign that it's going to roll soon!
