Rock Your Students' World
Lintor is proud to be a partner in an exciting international project involving seven continents: RockOurWorld (ROW). ROW was created by Carol Anne Mcguire, an Apple Distinguished Educator, from Orange County, CA. The project encourages students and teachers to come together to collaborate in composing music, making movies, sharing photos and meeting face to face in video conferencing-all culminating in a hard bound book. And what makes the books even more special, Ms. McGuire transcribed them into Braille for her visually impaired students. According to Mrs. McGuire, "Through this project, we have met with students and teachers on every continent. As an educator, I could have taught my students about the world using the library, news media or social studies books. They would have learned about racism, hatred and war. But through video conferencing and collaboration, they learned about their world through music, laughter and friendship."

Books of Hope
Last year, the fourth grade students at Lake Harbor Middle School in Mandeville, LA participated in the Books of Hope project, which is a service-learning opportunity where U.S. students write and publish books to be sent to children around the world. They sent their Lintor books to India and Uganda. Suzanne Buras, one of the participating teachers, said about the experience, "Our students felt like they were making a real difference in someone else's life. They also had their eyes opened to the fact that everyone in the world is not as fortunate as they are. Their world-view was enlarged."

E-Pal Books A Great Project to Connect A Community
You don't have to search the globe to connect students with each other. You can do it in your own backyard. Last year, the fourth graders in Mrs. A. C. Johnson's class at Midfield Elementary School and the fifth/sixth graders in Mrs. Ramsay's class at Fultondale Elementary School participated in a writing/technology/art project throughout the school year. They corresponded, exchanged art projects, created Webquests and had surprise school visits. The culminating book was presented as a gift to the fourth graders from FES. This wonderful student centered project was selected to be showcased at the National Educational Computer Conference held in Atlanta last June.
