The Girl
Scouts of the USA
Environmental Service Project celebrating the 95th Anniversary wrapped up this spring
as a huge success. The last of 14,500 anniversary trees were delivered by FOL
and planted by Girl Scouts in April. This year-long national service project
inspired the Trees for the 21st Century patch program,
which will be launched in June.
FOL thanks all the great staff at Girl Scouts
of the USA
and the Council leaderships, with special thanks to Maria Caban, of the Elliot Wildlife Values Program. We look forward to planting more trees with
this energetic youth group.
1% for
the Planet is a growing movement of 859 companies that donate 1% of their sales
to environmental groups worldwide. The Future of Life is now eligible to
receive donations through this program. Click here to learn how your company can participate.

Blossom this Spring!
|
|
The
Future of Life worked with 600 children and 300 adults, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls
Club members, and Big Brothers Big
Sisters, to plant 4,000 trees this spring. We are so grateful to our
on-the-ground partners; the Chesapeake
Bay Foundation, the Stroud Water
Research Center,
Killens Pond State Park,
and the Delaware Center for
Horticulture, for making these plantings a great experience for kids,
parents and mentors all over the Mid-Atlantic. Check out this weblog about a recent planting. If you would
like to participate in a tree planting this fall, please email us.

Businesses Celebrate the Environment with Help from FOL
|
|
Many companies want to celebrate Earth Day with their employees but don't know how. This year, the Future of Life found creative ways to help out both Morgan Stanley and McCormick Taylor (a planning and engineering firm that hosts FOL's offices). FOL provided tree seedlings for 100 McCormick Taylor employees to plant as an Earth Day event. (right: Afton Pascal receives tree seedlings.)
Morgan Stanley's employees will be able to purchase FOL tree pledge cards at their cafeterias in the US, London and Mumbai on June 3rd, for Morgan Stanley's Global Environmental Awareness Day.

FOL
in the Eagles "Nest"
|
|
The Philadelphia Eagles - considered the "greenest" team in
the NFL - invited friends and supporters to help plant the latest phase of the
Eagles forest in Neshaminy State Park in Pennsylvania.
The Eagles partnered with the PA Department of Conservation and Natural
Resources, SCA, the Conservation Fund and others to plant the first NFL forest
in the nation.

Remember that song? We're taking a
cue from it. Despite the fact that The Future of Life has illustrious origins -
from a seminal E.O. Wilson book by the same name, many still misinterpret what
we do. After much consideration, FOL Board and staff decided to give ourselves
a new name while we are still a young organization.
As of June 2008, we will change our name to ERTHNXT. ERTHNXT communicates the idea that our priority for the future is
Earth and implies a sense of urgency that is imperative for conserving our planet. Check
out our new logo at erthnxt.org.
Please add jmilkman@erthnxt.org to your safe senders list, as our next newsletter will come from ERTHNXT!
