| FOL and Girl Scouts Help Plant 20,000 Trees in the Big Apple |

FOL and the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York will help to plant 20,000 trees in five New York City parks on October 20th for "It's My Park Day." The event is part of Mayor Bloomberg's Million Tree Initiative, a key element of the Mayor's sustainability plan, PlaNYC. |

Maggie Morrison
We are thrilled to have Maggie Morrison, Senior Director of the Cisco Sales Associate Program, join the FOL Board. She is a ten-year veteran of Cisco Systems, where she served as General Manager for Scotland and Ireland, and following that, as General Manager of The Netherlands. Maggie is also a well known public speaker. She has rich international experience from working and living in France, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, The USA, and The UK. Maggie has been active in philanthropy in support of education and the environment.
Russell Read
FOL is excited to welcome Russell Read, Chief Investment Officer for the California Public Employees' Retirement System, to our board. Russell previously served as Deputy Chief Investment Officer for Deutsche Asset Management and Scudder Investments, and held senior investment positions with the OppenheimerFunds, CNA Insurance, Prudential Insurance, and First Chicago. He has held academic positions at the University of Maine and Stanford University. In his spare time , Russell has served as the socio-economic advisor for the Forest BioProducts Research Project at the University of Maine, and is studying for a degree in forestry. |
| Amanda Benner Joins FOL as Program Director |

We are so glad to welcome Amanda Benner to FOL as our Program Director. Amanda joins FOL from her role as Executive Director of UC Green, Inc. in Philadelphia. At UC Green, Amanda engaged over 1,000 volunteers annually to plant over 300 large street trees and other seasonal greenspace projects. She also created a summer youth employment program to address tree maintenance, develop stewardship and offer local young adults a rewarding experience with educational workshops, field trips, and job mentoring. Amanda brings a wealth of experience in project management and background in marketing, communications,and operations. She received an MBA from the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business and a B.S. from La Salle University, and is an award-winning volunteer in her community. |
