The 2012 Race Season - Where to begin?? |
Seriously - there is so much to announce for the season ahead that it's honestly getting difficult to keep track of it all! We'll start with our finalized 2012 race dates and host venues:
Storm the Trent - May 12-13 (Tweed)
ESAR - June 16 (Apsley)
RockstAR - July 28 (Bark Lake)
Storm the 'Scarpment - September 15 (Milton)
Our core website at www.stormevents.ca has been completely overhauled to direct you to all the details of the four events in the Storm Racing series, which are now all completely updated with 2012 info. Registration is now open and early entry rates are now in effect!

Welcome Hi-Tec!! |
The biggest news by far for 2012 is our new partnership with iconic footwear brand Hi-Tec, who will be the new presenting sponsor of each of our four races for the 2012-2014 seasons. In the late nineties, Hi-Tec was the dominant name behind adventure racing in North America, and it's only fitting that things are starting to come full circle with the recent resurgence of the sport. We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Eric and the team from Hi-Tec to the Storm Racing Series, and you will be too when you see all the awesome prizing we have in store!

Our New Event - Storm the 'Scarpment! |
Okay, so it might not technically be a "new" event, but we've given it a pretty major facelift! Formerly known as Storm the "Ten," Storm the 'Scarpment has been re-formatted to offer 5-hour and 8-hour race formats in place of the usual ten. Race Date for 2012 is Saturday September 15th.
The list of overhauls also includes a new military-style obstacle course on the trail running section, as well as an all-new racecourse design and race site at Milton's Kelso Conservation Area. The only relay-style adventure race in the country, Storm the 'Scarpment still features solo and tag team divisions, as well as those for teams of two, four, five or six. Storm the Trent Returns to Tweed! |
Storm the Trent will be returning to Trudeau's Park Resort near the village of Tweed (where the 2009 event was hosted) on May 12-13, and we couldn't be more excited about coming back! As always, three separate races will be staged over the course of the weekend, each offering progressive levels of distance and degree of difficulty. Racers have the choice of the beginner-friendly 'Hike' course, the intermediate-level 'Trek,' or the 'Trek Elite' advanced course, as well as team formats ranging from solo to teams of two or four.
This race has been completely sold out months in advance for the past three years, so you definitely do not want to delay in registering your team! Early entry rates are in effect until January 15th, and the first 500 racers will receive race souvenirs. Click here to check out this year's swag item!

ESAR Celebrates 10 years / RockstAR Keeps Rockin'... |
2012 will represent the 10th anniversary year of the Emergency Services Adventure Race (ESAR), and we've got lots in store to mark the occasion! This year's race will make the move to Canadian Shield country, and the rugged terrain surrounding the town of Apsley just northeast of Peterborough. While the race is primarily for emergency services personnel, any and all teams of three are welcome to take part in their choice of short or full-course options ranging from three-to-five or five-to-eight hours.
And Year Five of the RockstAR Adventure Race takes place once again on July 28th at the Bark Lake Leadership Centre in the mighty Haliburton Highlands. RockstAR features both four and eight-hour rogaine-style course options for teams of two or three, as well as the best host venue for an adventure race anywhere in Ontario! GOT Reader's Choice Awards 2011 |
Like what we did this year? There is only one item on our 2011 Christmas list - and it's a vote for "Best Adventure Race" in support of Storm the Trent in the annual Get Out There Magazine Reader's Choice Awards!
Although it may seem like shamelss self-promotion, your votes really do support us in our dealings with sponsors, media, landowners and community stakeholders, which ultimately lends to the success of Storm events. We would greatly appreciate a few minutes of your time to submit your votes at www.surveymonkey.com/s/WZZCMLB
