Judy's Solar Shed

Amity, OR

Making the best use of available space was just one goal for this project. The best spot for the solar array was also an ideal place to build a much-needed shed for farm equipment like tractors and trailers.

Facing south and overlooking one portion of the Wolhaupter farm's grass seed field, the new shed is wired and houses the 2 inverters serving each leg of the solar array.

2012 Goal Net Zero Tour
By The Goal Net Zero Team:
Kathy Bash, Kathryn Gray, &

Solar Oregon Board Member Linda Barnes

When Solar Oregon started the Goal Net Zero Tour in 2008, we chose the word 'Goal' very deliberately. All the home owners in that year, and all those since, were part of a growing number of people intent on shifting the energy use paradigm from 'how much better than historic averages' to 'how far off from on site net zero.'

We encourage you to join us for the 2012 Tour to see just how far the bar has shifted in these few years. Our five wonderful examples contain a variety of approaches and features.

Sam Doak photo contest winnerWillamette Week prints Solar Oregon's response to its solar cover story

Earlier this month, Willamette Week (WW) printed an article disputing the merits of investing in solar, under the title "Lies My Newspaper Told Me." Solar Oregon wrote a response, highlighting Portland's residential solar success story. We are gratified that WW printed our response, allowing us to set the record straight.

Lake County Business and Building Owners to benefit from Commercial Energy Efficiency Revolving Loan Fund
By South Central Oregon Economic Development District Executive Director Betty Riley

Upgrading and iBlower Doormproving energy efficiency and heating can be a challenge. A very expensive challenge.  However, Lake County business and building owners looking to improve their heating and energy resources may be in luck. Funded through the Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) and USDA Rural Development, the Commercial Energy Efficiency Revolving Loan Fund is available to help finance improvements in the overall energy efficiency performance of commercial buildings, resulting in decreased energy costs.

The program, which is also being run through Lake County Resources Initiative in Lakeview, could include improvements to several areas of a particular business or building.  Jim Walls of LCRI says that the audit could save businesses or building owners hundred of dollars.
