On behalf of Solar Now! we are excited to extend an invitation to attend Solar Now! University September 22nd - September 24th, 2011. Solar Now! University is the second annual conference that brings together motivated communities from southern, western and central Oregon to be a part of the Solar Now! statewide educational and outreach effort.  Solar Now! wants to help passionate volunteers, organizational leaders, municipalities and solar champions establish local, solar outreach programs. With the right resources, training and support, community and municipal leaders can create their own community solar outreach programs.

Meet Adam Sage
Solar Oregon's new Development Director!

After years of paying $.90 a KWh on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Adam Sage finally acted on his discouragement and attended solar installation/design classes with Solar Energy International and Solar Living Institute. He first became involved with Solar Oregon in 2010 by volunteering his time coordinating the monthly networking meeting known in PDX as Solar Drinks.

Solar Airconditioning:
Using Heat to Cool Down?

Banylus sur Mer wine storage
Almost 50,000 sq. ft. of solar airconditioned space at the Banyuls sur Mer winery in France.
By Jean P. Murray, Solar Oregon Board Member

Heat and solar energy go hand in hand. We've all seen installations that provide solar hot water and solar heating. But  if we could come up with a sort of "combined-reversible solar-thermal" system that could provide airconditioning  in the summer, heating in the winter, and hot water year-round, the circle would be complete. It's possible, and new solar-concentrating collectors and airconditioning technology are making this type of system technically and economically feasible.

2011 Oregon Green and Solar Tours

Oregon Green and Solar Tours logo

The Oregon Green and Solar Tours are one of the biggest events of their kind in the nation.  Each year, communities across the state offer tours of homes and businesses showcasing a variety of green and solar technologies.  Each tour reflects the unique interests of the community, yet all share a common goal: to educate the public about green and solar strategies.  Most of these tours occur in September and October with most of them coinciding with the National Solar Tour.

By Ron "Mac" McDowell, Solar Oregon Board Member

The Oregon Entrepreneurs Network (OEN) recently announced finalists for this year's Tom Holce Entrepreneurship Awards, and one of the four finalists in the "growth stage company" category is Grape Solar of Eugene, Oregon.

Ocean Yuan, a University of Oregon graduate and Eugene resident, is the President of Grape Solar and is being recognized for helping revolutionize the way solar is sold in the United States.  His company is one of the largest solar consortiums in the world, consisting of dozens of Chinese manufacturers involved in the solar energy supply chain, which yields 500MW of manufacturing capacity per year.
