Jack Simons' 2.45 kW PV system was installed on a storage shed roof, as shade trees protecting his home from the summer heat also prevented him for installing the system on the roof of his home. And he has found that there are advantages to having your system only 10 feet off the ground!

Claire

A Familiar Face Takes the Reigns

If you have attended a Solar Oregon event in the last couple of years you have most likely met Claire Carlson. Starting as an intern in 2009, Claire has worked her way up through the Solar Oregon ranks as the Education Coordinator, Program Manager, and now as the new Executive Director, replacing Markus Stoffel who has moved on to the financial planning sector.

In her time at Solar Oregon, Claire has worked to expand Solar Oregon's statewide reach by building partnerships with municipalities, educational institutions, and other nonprofits. She has contributed many hours and many miles to Oregon's recent solar successes including the Solarize Pendleton effort, Solar Now! University, and dozens of workshops in every corner of the state.

"I am very lucky to be a part of Oregon's solar community and a member of an organization that has been educating and advocating for Oregon's most abundant renewable resource for over 30 years. Solar energy plays an important part in our state's energy future and I look forward to helping the voice of all Oregonians who support solar energy be heard."

2011 American Solar Energy Society Conference Report

Written by Solar Oregon Board Member Kacia Brockman

2011 ASES Conference entrance

Solar 2011, the annual solar energy conference organized by the American Solar Energy Society, took place in Raleigh, NC, in April. The conference typically has a two-part focus on scientific research and solar policy. I go for the policy discussions. As a board member for Solar Oregon and manager of Energy Trust of Oregon's solar incentive program, it's my chance to network with my counterparts from other states and share best practices.

 SNU Roseburg

Congratulations to the community of Roseburg for being selected to host 2011 Solar Now! University

Building on the success of last year we are gearing up for the second Solar Now! University to be held in beautiful Roseburg Oregon. Last year Solar Now! University brought together over thirty municipal and community leaders representing five Eastern Oregon communities looking to learn about resources for creating their own solar initiatives. This year we hope to have even greater participation from Southern and Western Oregon with even more valuable resources and lessons learned from Oregon's solar energy leaders.

Solar Now! University is a collaboration between the City of Portland, Solar Oregon, Oregon Department of Energy and Energy Trust of Oregon.
