PLANT OF THE MONTH
Aster chilensis 'Point Saint George' Point Saint George Aster

Aster chilensis 'Point Saint George' is a low-growing groundcover variety of the bright and festive Aster chilensis. With pale lavender daisy flowers covering this plant in summer and fall it will provide color when few other plants are blooming. Point Saint George grows 4" -6" tall, with flowers on short stalks just taller than the lush foliage. It grows from rhizomes and colonizes vigorously, so careful thought should be given to planting location. If you are concerned about space then it is best to restrict this plant to containers. This evergreen will support light foot traffic and can be mown to maintain a turf-like but pretty ground-cover or lawn substitute. It provides a nectar source for butterflies and seed source for birds. Ideal for lawn substitute, meadow plantings or containers. Provide some summer water.
Every purchase of our "Plant of the Month" at our retail nursery partners will generate a $0.50 donation to PLANT WITH PURPOSE to help villages in third world economies restore farms, plant trees and create local jobs. |

GARDEN OF THE MONTH
Point Loma Native Plant Garden
The Point Loma Native Plant Garden, located on the border of Ocean Beach and Point Loma houses a wonderful collection of mature native plants, trees and shrubs from Southern California, the Channel Islands and Northern Baja. The garden is a city of San Diego park cared for by the Friends of the Point Loma Garden, an all volunteer group supported by the San Diego River Park Foundation.
