Salvia "Dara's Choice"
Creeping Sage Hybrid
This low-growing sage has vibrant green leaves that defy this plants drought tolerant nature. "Dara's Choice" is thought to be a cross between Salvia mellifera and Salvia sonomensis. It has bright green leaves that are accentuated by deep lavender flowers that appear spring through summer. This easy care, fast growing salvia performs best in well-draining soils, and will take full to part sun. It is drought tolerant, and cold hardy to 15 degrees F. "Dara's Choice"is a wonderful addition to any habitat garden as it attracts hummingbirds, finches, butterflies and has a wonderful scent to add to a sensory garden. Because it grows so fast and has such an impact with color this plant should also be considerd if you are trying to sell a house fast. In 2 or 3 months this plant will look like it has been in the landscape for years.
"Dara's Choice" is 1-2 feet tall and will spread to between 3 and 6 feet in a loosely mounding form. |

Tip of the Month The recent rains and resulting damp may bring about ideal conditions for snails and slugs. High snail and slug populations are promoted by wet, humid conditions. Below are some tips for combating them.
-
Snails love to hide during the day. Where possible remove hiding places such as; debris, wooden boards, dense ground covers and leafy branches growing near the ground.
-
Hand-picking can be effective if you can stand to do it! You can make this easier by providing a snail harbor where the snails will gather in one place. You can simply lay down a board and the snails will gather beneath it.
-
Another successful method is to set down shallow broad containers of beer. Bury the container so the top is about level with the dirt and get ready for a snail party! You'll need to change the beer every 3 or 4 days, and keep water out.
-
Be careful if you decide to use decollate snails. They will help control the snail population but may consume your young plants too!
-
Laying down bait can be effective but please remember bait is poisonous to pets and children! |
