Happy 30th Anniversary Rainbow Days
Rainbow Days' 30th Anniversary began in a festive fashion as long-time supporters, Board members, staff and program participants gathered on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Brookhollow Country Club. Attendees heard compelling testimonials from program participants and board members, celebration plans were revealed for the anniversary year, and gratitude was shared for 30 years of support that has enabled Rainbow Days to serve over 138,000 Dallas-area children. Board member, Carriea Flowers, shared her story of hope and personal connection to Rainbow Days' mission, and Cathey Brown, Rainbow Days' Founder & CEO, shared words of gratitude from program participants over the past 30 years. The highlight of the evening was a performance by program participants and sisters, Chelsea (age 17), and Dori (Age 15), of an original song. The song, written and sung by Dori and accompanied on the piano by Chelsea, was written to give other children going through domestic violence and homelessness hope through their difficult situations. It was truly inspirational - many thanks to the Neason family for joining us and sharing your musical gifts with your Rainbow Days' family. Rainbow Days was grateful to acknowledge its 30th Anniversary Host Committee, donors who have signed on as 2012 Pot of Gold Luncheon Silver Sponsors and hosts of the 30th Anniversary. Many thanks to the tireless efforts of our 30th Anniversary Committee and Celebration Committee for all of the hard work you put into this event. What a memorable way to kick off a very special year! | |

Saturday with Santa Teams Up with Eastfield's Drama Department
Thank you, Eastfield College Drama Club, for welcoming Rainbow Days' families to this year's Saturday with Santa on December 5! The annual event brought joy to over 350 homeless children and parents living in over 14 shelters in Dallas county this year. The event took place at Eastfield College who opened their hearts and campus for this event and were instrumental in providing a wonderful experience for the families. The guests experienced a live performance of Miracle on 34th Street by the Eastfield College Harvester Theatre Company and The Company of Rowlett Performers. Special thanks to Ashley Lindley, Meka Ray, Dusty Reasons, Lori Honeycutt and everyone at Eastfield College who helped make this day possible.

Drug Fact
Girls and young women are likelier than boys and young men to abuse substances in order to lose weight, relieve stress or boredom, improve their mood, reduce sexual inhibitions, self-medicate depression, and increase confidence, according to Women Under the Influence, a book by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University.

Speedway Children's Charities

Rainbow Days is thrilled to be a grant recipient from Speedway Children's Charities! At their annual tree lighting ceremony, Speedway Children's Charities presented a check for $25,000 in support of Rainbow Days Kids' University summer camps to be held at the University of Texas at Dallas for children residing in shelters which will benefit over 200 children this next summer. In addition to a festive ceremony complete with a visit from Santa; brand new bicycles were given to grant recipient children attending the event. What joy it brought to 10 Rainbow Days children from Oak Cliff United Methodist Church who received a new bike and enjoyed a special ride through the Gift of Lights with Fort Worth Mayor, Betsy Price. Thank you Speedway Children's Charities for your generous support and making the holidays bright for children we serve.
