| 19th Annual Back-to-School Drive | |
Each year, with the help of our community, Rainbow Days prepares more than 400 homeless children to start school with new school supplies and uniforms.
Sometimes the only difference between an A+ student and a failing student is having basic supplies to do homework and participate in class. Because 100% of the children served by Rainbow Days' Family Connection program reside in homeless, domestic violence, or transitional living shelters, school supplies may not fit into their families' budget.
With a donation of only $60, you can ensure a child starts the school year off with the right tools for success.
You can help in several ways:
-
Make a financial donation to Rainbow Days, Inc. with BTS in the memo line.
-
-
Volunteer to help at the Back-to-School Celebration on Tuesday, August 17th.
Or by sending it to:
Rainbow Days, Inc. 8150 N. Central Expressway, Suite 1600 Dallas, TX 75206
Please help give a homeless child hope for a promising future by supporting our Annual Back-to-School Drive.
For more information please contact Shawn Wills at 214.217.3833. |

| Want to Help a Homeless Child Celebrate His/Her Birthday? | |
Gather the following materials for a homeless child between the ages of 4-12 and donate to Rainbow Days:
-
1 box of Cake mix (any flavor) and 1 can of Icing (any flavor) for a child with access to a kitchen OR 1 Hostess cupcake (two pack) for a child who does not have access to a kitchen
-
1 small package of birthday candles
-
1 Festive set of party decorations (streamers, balloons, party hats, noise makers)
-
1 Birthday gift wrapped worth $5 or less (Dollar stores are great for this!)
-
1 Birthday card for mom to give to the child
-
1 Birthday pin or ribbon to wear. (Party City, and Michaels have these pin and they say "Its my birthday!")
-
1 Fun activity to help celebrate (games like: Pin the tail on the donkey, bingo, cards, music, crafts)
-
(Optional) 1 Birthday card signed by you to wish the child a happy birthday. (can be handmade)
-
Place the contents in a box that has a cover so they can be stacked or place the contents in a clear gift bag.
-
Do not tape the box closed - you are welcome to DECORATE the box and wrap the top and bottom with wrapping paper as long as we can look in the box and open it. Because of security reasons at the shelter the box will have to be opened for security to see the contents when we take it to the child.
-
Label the box to indicate whether it is for a girl or a boy and what age range. Example: Boy 4-6 years old, Girl 8-9 years old, Generic 5-6 years old.
-
For precautionary reason, please do not tape the boxes shut.
Thanks for making a difference in a child's life! |
| Board Member in the Spotlight: Kurt Opella | |
Kurt Opella first learned about Rainbow Days through the Center for Nonprofits, and joined the Board about a year ago. He recalls his first Pot of Gold luncheon where he heard moving stories about Rainbow Days and its impact on many of the attendees. "That was not a room of random strangers attending a random charity event," remarks Kurt.
When he has the opportunity to share Rainbow Days with others he is quick to point out that it is one of Dallas' most established and successful charities and that Rainbow Days has helped over 100,000 children. After mentioning that almost 20% of Dallas' children are below the poverty line he closes with a "wanna help?"
Kurt is origionally from San Antonio and attended the University of Texas. But Kurt hasn't lived in Texas his entire life. He spent some time living in both Chicago and Alaska - guess he decided the warmer climate suits him better! When he isn't working as a Managing Partner for LandMark Financial Network he enjoys hanging out with his boy, renovating their house, rock climbing and traveling anywhere his cell phone can't get a signal! |
