Come in and 'Pepper in some Fun' at Chili's!
NBA All Stars!

Turkey DunkThrough the generosity of the Dallas Mavericks Community Relations Department, 150 children of Rainbow Days enjoyed a night filled with fun and excitement at the NBA All Stars Jam Session at the Dallas Convention Center in February.

At this private event, dubbed as the "unofficial kick-off to All Star Weekend", the children were able to experience "over 11 acres of NBA All Star excitement" while participating in tons of games and competitions. The kids also had the opportunity to enjoy the ultimate 80's experience by dancing to music provided by special guest, DJ Jazzy Jeff (Mavs mascot, Champ, was also present and helped hype up the crowd).

At the conclusion of the event, each child received a t-shirt for autographs and a sack lunch, provided by Protecting Our Children.  The kids all walked away with giveaways and smiles. This was truly a one of a kind experience and a slam dunk for all!

Cathey Brown and Peter Drucker's Five Most Important Questions

Rainbow Days is pleased to share that our founder and CEO is out and about sharing her skills and expertise with others.

In February, Cathey Brown, a certified Leader to Leader Facilitator, had the opportunity to conduct a training workshop on strategic planning based on Peter Drucker's The Five Most Important Questions.  The workshop was attended by senior level leaders from nearly two dozen social sector organizations.

Established in 1990 as the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management, the Leader to Leader Institute furthers its mission -to strengthen the leadership of the social sector - by providing social sector leaders with essential leadership, wisdom, inspiration and resources to lead for innovation and to build vibrant social sector organizations.

BuzzFree

Rainbow Days Staff members Claudia Lemmon and Leo Gutierrez, recently participated in the 9th Annual BuzzFree PROMises Dress Giveaway. BuzzFree PROMises' mission, as community collaborators and partners, is to encourage, promote, and reward safe and healthy choices made by junior and senior high school girls and boys who thrive in adverse conditions.  They seek to prevent and reduce underage drinking, driving under the influence, and usage of other drugs while increasing protective factors in the lives of students.

At this day long event, teens from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, and surrounding counties, participate in workshops geared toward promoting healthy choices and behavior. Juniors and Seniors, that are in good standing at school, are nominated by teachers and counselors to participate in this one of a kind event. At the end of the event, the teens leave with a free dress or tuxedo, along with the promise of sobriety from drugs and alcohol.

While the teens participated in their workshops, their parents were able to participate in personalized workshops covering topics such as "Youth and Marketing Strategies" and a panel discussion on "Detox and Treatment." Rainbow Days presented to over 60 parents about "Adolescent Brain Development" and the harmful effects that drugs and alcohol can have on the developing brain.  Rainbow Days' presentation was extremely interactive and parents were able to participate in activities that taught them the importance of community support in preventing risky teen behavior, as well as a activities geared at explaining brain connections in teenage brains.

This was a great event and a wonderful opportunity for Rainbow Days to work with community partners by providing parents with ideas on preventing substance abuse for their children and giving them drug-free  alternatives to encourage a "Promise of Sobriety" throughout life.

Executive Board of Directors

Robin Smith first learned about Rainbow Days at a Get on Board Fair.  Even though there were many wonderful organizations represented there were only a few that spoke to Robin's heart. Robin was extremely impressed with Rainbow Days' mission as well as the longevity of the staff and sound fiscal management.  "I am passionate about organizations that help children have a brighter tomorrow," says Robin.

Since becoming a Board Member in September of 2008, Robin has had the experience of volunteering at "Easter Eggstravaganza" and "Saturday with Santa"; "Just being able to talk to the parents and help with the children and the activities is wonderful," explains Robin.

Quite the entrepreneur herself, Robin recently created her own business, RLS Coaching and Consulting, which focuses on Diversity Initiatives and Training as well as Career Transition Training and Coaching.  Robin and her husband Dale have 2 daughters and recently became first-time grandparents!  In addition to Rainbow Days, Robin volunteers her time providing career transition coaching and resume support as well as taking part in Rainbow Days' annual Back-to-School drive.

Robin feels blessed to be involved with Rainbow Days and look forward to her continued support on the Board.
