| Having Fun While Making a Difference! |
|

Volunteer groups from the MARS Company and Seventh Day Adventist Church recently took part in volunteering their time to sort, cut, organize, and label Learning Tool Kit (LTK) materials for Rainbow Days' homeless children. The LTK's, which are distributed to each homeless child whenever they leave a shelter, contain fun, developmental activities that are designed to increase learning skills while providing hours of fun for the entire family. A huge THANK YOU to these volunteers for their support of Rainbow Days. We appreciate the work of our dedicated volunteers and the gifts of time and service they offer to us!

| A "Hare" Raising Good Time |
|
Through our Family Connection program, families from Exodus Ministry recently joined Rainbow Days for an exciting day at the Fort Worth Zoo. Throughout the morning and afternoon, the children and parents enjoyed the cool weather while viewing all the wonderful animals, shows, and exhibits throughout the park. For lunch, everyone gathered together for a 'family-style' picnic in the pavilion. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Support Group Co-Facilitator - Ongoing: Volunteers are needed to help co-facilitate small groups of children using our Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG®) program, which incorporates guided discussions, games, art projects and other activities. Groups are held at one of the 80 partnering sites throughout the Dallas area including shelters, recreational centers, and schools. Trained volunteers are paired with a Rainbow Days staff member to help lead the support groups. In addition to attending a volunteer orientation, all group co-facilitators must attend a 6-hour training session. Groups meet weekly, days and evenings, and volunteers are asked to work in 2 hour shifts-which includes preparation time. The next training date for Support Group Co-Facilitators is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2009, from 9:00am - 3:00pm. To register for this training, please call the Rainbow Days offices at 214-887-0726. | |
| Staff Member Spotlight - Janet Mitchell |
|
Janet Mitchell - Director of Training Services
After moving to Dallas in 1985 to work for Ross Perot's Texans' War on Drugs, Janet Mitchell began the process ofnetworking - meeting individuals in the substance abuse prevention field. looking for a place to volunteer. She was told by individuals in the field that who she needed to meet with was Cathey Brown of Rainbow Days. After an initial lunch meeting with Cathey, she began referring to and volunteering with Rainbow Days. Then by 1989 she was working as a trainer and joined the staff full-time in 1991.
Today, Janet is the Director of Training Services. In her many opportunities to tell others about the organization she says "Rainbow Days is about giving hope for a promising future to children that otherwise may not have any. And we do that by giving them skills, knowledge and attitudes to help them be successful."
Over the years she has heard many amazing stories about the impact Rainbow Days has had on the lives that have been served. She most enjoys when people she trained years before tell her they still do Rainbow Days' Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG®) Program. Janet is thrilled to know that because of Rainbow Days and its trainings "children's lives are changed forever."
Janet and her husband have one daughter who is a junior at Texas A&M University. Janet was born and raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Janet enjoys spending her time reading and working out. Of all the books she's read To Kill a Mockingbird remains one of her favorites. And her all time favorite movie is The Sound of Music.
