AT&T Funds Rainbow Days' Newest Program, Positive Behavior for School Success (PBSSŪ)

girl with school suppliesRainbow Days proudly announces a 5-year grant from the AT&T Foundation to support the development of its new classroom-based program for Grades K-5, Positive Behavior for School Success (PBSSŪ). The goal of PBSSŪ is to reduce the number of students at-risk for dropping out of school due to behavior problems.  The grant unites AT&T's commitment to helping students complete school with Rainbow Days' expertise in improving behaviors among children at special risk for dropping out.  Based on the latest research, PBSSŪ addresses the underlying causes for student misbehavior, which can reduce time for academic study by up to 50 percent.  PBSSŪ incorporates core elements from Rainbow Days' evidence-based support group programs and focuses on key behavioral competencies needed for success in school and life.  The PBSSŪ lessons and booster activities concentrate on developing empathy, respect for others, manners, social awareness, and skills to improve communication, relationship-building, conflict resolution, and self-control. When completed, PBSSŪ will include teacher training, parent resources, documentation and evaluation tools, and implementation assistance.  In addition to being designed for implementation in schools, the quick and easy PBSSŪ activities are also intended for use in after-school, church, recreational, and classroom settings.  AT&T's support of PBSSŪ is gratefully acknowledged, and Rainbow Days is proud to partner with AT&T in achieving its mission of improving school success for our nation's youth.
Back to School Celebration a Success

girl wearing backpack Rainbow Days is grateful for the generosity of our donors, volunteers and partners who helped make this year's Back-to-School Drive an outstanding success.  Rainbow Days had more than 500 children and families from 18 different shelters who participated in this year's event at the Dallas Market Center on Thursday, August 21, 2008.  A special thanks to the Dallas Market Center for once again hosting us and generously donating the space for us to have this event each year and to a new collaborating organization, Captain Hope's Kids for generously providing the uniforms and the school age  supplies this year, we are grateful for your continued partnership and support.

In addition, Rainbow Days is thankful for the hundreds of generous donors and volunteers from: Accenture, AT&T Pioneers - Ginger Oak Club, Capital Grille, Captain Hope's Kids, CitiFinancial Mortgage, Dallas Market Center, Jones Day, KMPG's Network of Women, Match.com, Mom's Best Friend, National Charity League, Office Depot National Backpack Program, Radica and United Way's Young Leadership Society who along with numerous individual donors and volunteers who volunteered their time and also donated ALL of the school supplies to fill 550 much-needed backpacks.
Play Connection

Rainbow Days is pleased to announce that we will begin serving more children and families this fall through one of our newest curriculum, Play Connection.   Play Connection is an interactive support group for children and parents that strengthens families through play.   Through our research-based curriculum, Play Connection uses play as the vehicle to teach positive parenting skills and increase the understanding of child development is an effective way to reach and teach vulnerable parents who are overwhelmed and need to reduce their own stress.  Through a generous grant from the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Rainbow Days will serve 200 children and parents this coming year through Play Connection at four partnering organizations.
