Back-to-School Celebration and Fall Harvest
Kids with backpacks Your donations make a difference!

It is hard to believe that in the midst of the summer heat that it is already time to start thinking about heading back to school!  We have over 350 homeless children who need YOUR help to help make this next school year a start with success. Through the annual Back-to-School & Fall Harvest projects, each homeless child Rainbow Days serves will receive a brand new backpack filled with school supplies and a brand new uniform or outfit to have a fresh start this coming school year.  We need both backpack sponsors/donors and fall harvest clothing "apple" sponsors and donating is fun and easy!

You can help by donating the new supplies/clothing themselves or the financial support needed to purchase over 350 uniforms to fill over 350 backpacks!  This is a great project for a family, groups of friends, neighbors, co-workers or Sunday school class members.  Click here to learn more about how you can get involved with the 2007 Back-to-School Supply Drive or Fall Harvest Clothing Drive.  All back-to-school supplies are due back to Rainbow Days by Monday, August 13th and all clothing is due by Monday, August 20th.  To sign up today, please contact Lynette Smith at lynettes@rdikids.org or 214-887-0726.
Kids' University 2007 - A Huge Success
Believing in the Dream of a College Education

Summer at Rainbow Days has gotten off to a great start! Through our continued partnership with the University of Texas at Dallas, Rainbow Days hosted the 12th annual, Kids' University (KU) in early June and the 2nd Annual Kids' University for survivors of Katrina in late June. Over 150 children from 14 Dallas area homeless shelters and others enjoyed this fun, educational, university-based camp as they participated in classes on science, safety, art, sign language, dance and more!

The week concluded with a special graduation ceremony where the children listened to a motivational speech by former NFL player Keith Davis. The children wore caps and gowns as their name was called to walk across the KU stage and to receive their diploma from Dr. George Fair, Dean of General Studies at UTD.

Rainbow Days is grateful for the generous support of several key funders who made this year's camps possible.  Thanks to: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Dallas Independent School District, The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, The Carl B. & Florence E. King Foundation, The Baron & Blue Foundation and the Fidelity Investments Children's Learning Fund at UT-Dallas.  Also, a special thanks to all of the volunteers, teachers and supporters who made this camp possible and such a wonderful week for so many children!
Cheers for Charity

Rainbow Days is grateful for the generosity of Cheers for Charity's recent award of $30,000 for this upcoming year's special Family Outings Program.  Cheers for Charity has pledged their volunteer, inkind and financial resources to help support the Back-to-School Celebration, Saturday with Santa and Easter Eggstravaganza which will serve an estimated 600 homeless children and their families this coming year. For the past 13 years, Cheers for Charity's has been carrying out their mission of providing a broad range of resources to Dallas-based children's agencies in an effort to enrich the lives of the children they serve.  Rainbow Days is proud to be the 2007 recipient of Cheers for Charity's support!

Girl Scouts Give Back
Thanks to Girl Scout troop #2522, and their troop leader Janice King, who gave Rainbow Days over 10 birthday boxes for some of the homeless children that Rainbow Days serves.  The girls collected the items for the birthday boxes and wrapped each box for a child.  Each box contains everything needed for a birthday celebration including: cake mix, icing, plates, forks, candles, balloons, birthday hats, games for a party, party favors and a birthday present for the birthday child (already wrapped) and a birthday card for the parent to write on and give to their child.

Rainbow Days is so grateful for the generosity and care that these young girls have displayed.  Thank you troop #2522!
