| Sixty Gather for Innovative Capital Summit |
|
In an effort to tackle key issues of sustainability and access to capital in today's economic environment, HFHC convened the Colorado Capital Summit in Denver August 31 and September 1.
More than forty representatives from fifteen affiliates joined with leaders from the financial, education, and affordable housing fields to discuss four financial models presented by Community Strategies Institute. Topics including debt utility, subsidy recapture, the HFHI sustainability policy, new market tax credits, secondary mortgage markets, social investing, and statewide loan pools were discussed in depth and four action plans were developed for consideration by the HFHC board. Information gathered at the Summit will inform the HFHC strategic plan, which will be developed this fall. Affiliate participation in the planning process is encouraged and welcome. The Colorado Capital Summit was generously funded by Habitat for Humanity International through the capacity building program. |

HFHC Awards Affiliates $150K for Family Support Staff
HFHC awarded 12 Colorado Habitat affiliates a combined total of $150,000 to support, expand, and create dedicated family support staff. HFHC was awarded these funds as only one part of a grant from the Statewide Strategic Use Fund for family self-sufficiency programs.
The entire Family Services program consists of four elements, all designed to better support families as they transition out of poverty. Those elements include 1) the development of a research-based, high quality curriculum for families; 2) the collection and publication of best practices and promising approaches in family support; 3) the provision of technical assistance and training for affiliates; and 4) the support and development of staff capacity in affiliate organizations (including funding for existing and new positions). |
