| Community Banks Partnership 2009 Kicks Off! |
|
Be sure to stop into your local Community Banks of Colorado branch, where Habitat for Humanity of Colorado will be featured throughout the months of June and July as their Community Touch Partner. Displays in each branch lobby promote the 1000 Homes Campaign and the need for affordable housing in Colorado. Local affiliates can capitalize on this partnership by contacting their local branch manager and offering to meet with staff to give an overview of your work. You can also provide them with local materials and a volunteer sign-up sheet to add to the lobby display. In addition to branch promotion, Community Banks of Colorado employees will be picking up hammers and building in Gunnison, Edwards, Durango, and Alamosa in the last half of June. Each of these affiliates will receive a $1,000 grant through HFHC from Community Banks. The total value of this sponsorship is $7,500, but the promotion to bank customers is invaluable. Thank you, Community Banks! For more information on contacting your local branch, please email Stefka Fanchi at stefka@habitatcolorado.org. | |

| Blend Your Love of Great Coffee With Your Love of Doing Good |
Habitat Colorado has partnered with Luna Roasters to create a velvety dark roast that was uniquely blended to harmoniously balance four coffee regions and highlight Habitat for Humanity of Colorado's effort to eliminate poverty housing. If you enjoy drinking coffee everyday, switch to Home Built Blend and show 1000 more families that There Is No Place Like Home. Habitat Colorado and Luna Roasters offer three great and simple ways to help build homes and hope while enjoying your daily cup of coffee.
Fifty percent or $5 of each bag sold directly benefits the 1000 Home Campaign. The Home Built Blend is available at wholesale ($5) to all our affiliates for retail sales in your ReStores or at any of your fundraising events. All the proceeds stay local and immediately start to pave the way for Colorado's next 1000 homes. The Home Built Blend is great to serve at special events or for use as sponsor gifts, volunteer recognition, and even at the worksite. Affiliates, contact Luna Roasters at 303-548-4431 to place an order for your ReStore or fundraising event.
How would you like gourmet coffee delivered to your door? Luna Roasters offers online subscriptions for our Home Built Blend. Depending on how much coffee you drink, you can have one, two, or even three bags delivered once a month to your doorstep. Any subscription plans and web sales will send $5 per bag directly to the 1000 Homes Campaign with Habitat Colorado. These subscriptions encourage a recurring revenue flow, and are great for congregations, corporations, foundations, and government agencies that purchase coffee for their employees/members. Click here to sign up for a Home Built Blend subscription.

Habitat Colorado Awarded Grant for Capacity Building in Family Support
Habitat for Humanity of Colorado has been awarded funding to create a standardized, comprehensive Family Support Program for the 30 Habitat for Humanity affiliates serving Colorado. The standardized program will allow affiliates the ability to provide high quality homeowner support, education and training to families from the time they express interest in becoming homeowners, through the construction and purchase of their homes, and beyond.
The program will consist of four elements, all designed to better support families as they transition out of poverty. Those elements include 1) the development of a research-based, high quality curriculum for families; 2) the collection and publication of best practices and promising approaches in family support; 3) the provision of technical assistance and training for affiliates; and 4) the support and development of staff capacity in affiliate organizations (including funding for existing and new positions). To learn more about the opportunities associated with this grant and how to apply for funding for Family Services positions, you can participate in a conference call on Wednesday, June 17 at 10 am. Please register by emailing karen@habitatcolorado.org. |

$100,000,000 Legacy Gift to Habitat for Humanity
J. Ronald Terwilliger, Chair of the Board at Habitat for Humanity, committed $100 million in a legacy gift to Habitat for Humanity International. Seventy percent of the funds will be used for housing micro-financing, allowing families around the world to improve their living conditions, while the other 30 percent of the bequest will create an endowment for global building. ( Link to the full article on MyHabitat). Habitat affiliates are being asked questions and seeing editorials written about this historic contribution, and affiliates and board members may want to respond. This legacy gift is a blessing for Habitat for Humanity's mission worldwide. The funds bequeathed to Habitat for Humanity International will primarily be used for global building, and will likely not have an impact in your local community. Habitat for Humanity of Colorado hopes Terwilliger's impressive charitable contribution inspires others to donate as generously to local Habitat affiliates. It takes entire communities to help build safe, decent, affordable homes for the 282,762 Coloradoans who live in unsafe or unaffordable housing. It is only through partnering with our neighbors that we will be able to eliminate substandard housing. |
