| Lunching with Legislators |
Commonly known as April Fool's Day, April 1st marked Habitat Colorado's 4th Annual Legislative Luncheon. The luncheon was sponsored by Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, and held at First Baptist Church of Denver, conveniently located across the street from the State Capitol. Of the 80 attendees, 38 were legislators or aides, 30 were staff representing nine affiliates plus HFHC, and five were homeowners. This was a great chance for affiliates to meet with their legislators and for homeowners to share their Habitat story. State Representative Kefalas, made remarks about affordable housing and the link to poverty, and how we help lift families out of poverty. Thanks to all who made the luncheon a great success and to Atlanta Bread Company for providing a great lunch! |
| Habitat Builds Colorado Day - 2009 |
Despite the down turn in the housing market, Habitat for Humanity keeps on building homes. One of the reasons for Habitat's continued success is the partnerships formed with local, state and national elected officials. As the Gubernatorial Proclamation declares, April 18th, 2009 is Habitat Builds Colorado Day (HBCD). Fourteen affiliates are participating this year: Routt County HFH, HFH Metro Denver, HFH of Eagle and Lake Counties, Gunnison Valley HFH, HFH La Plata, HFH Montrose, HFH Telluride Region, Fort Collins HFH, Flatirons HFH, Loveland HFH, HFH St. Vrain Valley, Berthoud HFH, Greeley Area HFH, and HFH of Estes Valley. HFHC and HFH Metro Denver will be holding a joint press event, on the construction site of their first LEED certified homes. Contact Kim Cooke to find out more about each event. You can contact her at 303-454-8965 ex. 6 or kim@habitatcolorado.org. |

| Habitat Colorado Welcomes New Volunteers Sarah Geduldig and Kalie Nutini
This month, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado welcomes two new volunteers to our team. Sarah Geduldig is currently finishing her senior year at the University of Denver. Her main focus will be to help with HFHC events. If you attended the Legislative Luncheon on April 1, you may have met her at the registration table.
Kalie Nutini is working on her degree in International Relations at the University of Colorado. She has worked to create our new Jamba Juice fundraiser and researched other possible corporate partners.
HFHC would like to thank Sarah and Kalie for giving their time to help Habitat. It is only because of people like them and all our other volunteers, who give their time so generously, that Habitat for Humanity can successfully help low-income families find a decent place to call home.

Affiliate Successes in Challenging Times
By Linda Hannafious, HFH Pueblo
In August, HFH Pueblo started a partnership with school district #60. For this partnership, Pueblo high school juniors and seniors who are taking the construction curriculum can now supplement their education with hands-on experience at our work sites. One house is dedicated for this endeavor and we look forward to closing on the home in early June when school lets out. Progress is moving along well and the students gain valuable work experience, while our affiliate gains many volunteers during the school year!
