April 1st 12-1:30 Habitat Colorado Legislative Luncheon - FHLB logoSponsored by Federal Home Loan Bank

All State and US Legislators and their aides are invited to attend lunch with Habitat affiliates and homeowners.  The program includes a description of the Habitat model, stories from homeowners, and information on the 1000 Homes campaign.  During these economic times, it is more important than ever to interface with elected officials, and your presence at the lunch helps us make the statewide case for housing.   Attend this free lunch, thanks to Federal Home Loan Bank, in Denver and bring a homeowner.  RSVP to kim@habitatcolorado.org by March 18th!

Habitat for Humanity of Colorado is endorsing House Bill 1064, which would establish a legislative task force to study poverty with the goal of reducing the number of Coloradans living in poverty by 50% by 2019.  If you would like more information or would like your affilate to endorse this legislation, contact Kim Cooke at kim@habitatcolorado.org.

Habitat Colorado Affiliate Website Has Been Redesiged

In response to affiliate feedback, Habitat Colorado (HFHC) has redesigned our affiliate website http://www.habitatcolorado.org/AffiliateSecureArea/index.shtml.  This restricted access portion of our website now has the same design and layout of our public and Board websites.  In addition, each area of HFHC's service to affiliates is laid out in a much more user friendly manner than the old site, which had not been redesigned for years.

Affiliates who need a user name and password for the website should contact Irene Perez Law at irene@habitatcolorado.org.  She would also be happy to hear any feedback about the new site.

Affiliate Successes in Challenging Times

Holy smokes winnersFlatirons HFH just hosted its fourth annual Holy Smokes clergy cooking competition.  This year's event, attended by over 400 people, raised 35% more than the competition last year!  The clergy chef whose 'tip jar' raised the most money for Flatirons HFH was deemed the winner.

Jan Hawley, Flatirons HFH's Development Director, attributes the amazing growth of the event to several factors:
1. It helps having a dedicated VISTA member, volunteer, or staff member focused on congregational outreach.
2. Our Faith Connections Committee plans and implements this event each year.
3. We have changed our focus from recruiting pastors to recruiting congregations to participate.
4. This was also the 4th year; we're beginning to get a solid base of supporters that grows each year.
5. It's a family oriented, church based event.
6. Now that we've had a few different winners, the rivalry is a fun aspect and church members come out and support their pastor!

For information on how to create your own congregation cooking competition, contact Jan at jhawley@flatironshabitat.org.

Berthoud Habitat for Humanity recently completed their second home thanks in part to Peter's dedication to the organization and to many local and statewide donors and volunteers that helped construct it.
