| Habitat for Humanity Paraguay Chosen as 1000 Homes Partner |
Together, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado (HFHC), Colorado affiliates, and our supporters achieved a historic milestone in November 2008: one thousand homes built in partnership with low income families in Colorado! In celebration of this milestone, and in recognition of the increasing need in Colorado and abroad, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado launched a three-year campaign to build the next 1,000 homes in just 3 years. To accomplish this ambitious goal, Colorado's 31 affiliates will increase production locally, and will raise funds to simultaneously build homes internationally.
HFHC is proud to announce that the international Habitat affiliate chosen to help achieve this goal is Habitat for Humanity Paraguay. Paraguay, a small land-locked country in central South America, was chosen as a partner for its great need, the organization's capacity for international engagement, and its program focus on education.
In Paraguay, Habitat for Humanity has initiated a unique program-based model that was born out of a partnership with the national teachers association. Over the next three years, the organization plans to build 600 homes in partnership with teachers and their families. The program includes the standard Habitat self-help housing model, and also incorporates a rigorous financial literacy curriculum and savings plan for participating families. By developing affordable housing and preparing teachers to become long-term homeowners, the organization is addressing multiple social factors and providing immeasurable benefit to the community as a whole.
Consider joining the journey to the next 1000 Homes, and designate a portion of your tithe to Paraguay.
