Much to Celebrate!  Habitat Completes 1000 Homes in CO.

1000th Hertz homeCongratulations affiliates and volunteers on 30 years of hard work!  It is with great satisfaction that HFHC and all Colorado affiliates complete the 1000th Habitat home built in Colorado.  Anyone involved with Habitat - volunteers, staff, board members, donors - should be proud of this amazing achievement.

1000 homes logoHFH of the St. Vrain Valley is currently putting the finishing touches on the 1000th home in Longmont.  The home is being built in partnership with the Hertz family, who are very excited to spend the holidays in their new home.  The dedication of this significant milestone will be on Saturday, November 22, at 12 pm at the Hertz family's new home.  Please contact Dave Emerson at demerson@stvrainhfh.org to RSVP for the event.

Not only will this celebration be for the 1000 homes already built, but it is the beginning of a new campaign to build 1000 more homes in the next three years!  With an appropriate slogan, There's No Place Like Home, Habitat for Humanity hopes to help more families realize the possibility of homeownership.

We would like to thank one of the newest campaign sponsors, Sunflower Farmers Market, who will donate all of the food for the 1000th home celebration.  This is in addition to the $20,000 they hope to raise in their stores statewide by collecting donations in their checkout lines.

For more information about the celebration contact Habitat for Humanity of Colorado at 303-454-8965.

Affordable Housing Advocacy Update

HFHC will receive access to an online advocacy tool from HFHI, making it quick and easy to contact our state and local officials.  In the upcoming year, HFHC Advocacy Organizer Kim Cooke will be sending periodic emails asking you to let others know of your support for affordable housing.  HFHC looks forward to working together with all of you as we monitor and advocate for housing policy that affects our ability to build safe, decent, affordable homes for families in Colorado.

The Community Engagement: Foundation of Advocacy training was a great success.  Please consider the next advocacy training to be held in February.  More details to follow...

HFHI has hired an independent consultant, Rachel Hurst, to explore impediments affiliates face to engaging in advocacy.  Rachel will be contacting State Support Organizations to discuss state-level advocacy initiatives and to find out what we think would help engage affiliates in advocacy work.  If you have thoughts on this subject please contact Kim at kim@habitatcolorado.org or 303 454 8965.

HFH Montrose Adds Unique Spin to the Gala Fundraiser
The Montrose County Habitat affiliate tried a unique format this year for their annual fundraising event.  They put a new spin on the typical fundraising gala by enlisting local jewelers and clothing stores to model holiday clothing and jewelry that was then put on display and up for sale at the event.

Contact Susan Bony, Executive Director of HFH of Montrose County at
sbonyhfhm@montrose.net for more information about the event.
