Save the Date for Camp Colorado!
Habitat for Humanity of Colorado will host its third annual conference on May 6-9, 2009 at the YMCA Camp of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado. Last year's conference brought together over 200 individuals from 35 communities across Colorado and Wyoming.
What participants said about last year's conference: -Executive Director's retreat was a rare gift. Thank you for this opportunity. -The Exhibit area and Networking Café were a highlight of the conference! -As a result of the conference, I plan to make stronger relationships with our city and regional government leaders. -I really enjoyed the conference and of course took home lots of information.
The conference planning committee is searching for workshops to present at Camp Colorado 2009! A few of the topics include: Green Building, Family Selection, Marketing Plans, Budgeting, HR, Speakers Bureaus, Program Evaluation, Advocacy, Managing and Recruiting Volunteers, ReStores, Working Committees and Fundraising Options.
Our goal is to provide beneficial workshops for you and your affiliate. If you have other ideas, want to make sure we cover a specific topic in a workshop, or are interested in presenting, please contact Kim at (303) 454-8965 ext 6 or kim@habitatcolorado.org. It's not too late for your thoughts to be heard!

Habitat Colorado, Employment Practices Solutions Partner to Bring Affiliates HR Services
HFHC is pleased to announce a new partnership beginning in September with Employment Practices Solutions, Inc. in order to bring human resources expertise to our Colorado affiliates. As HFHC is excited to pilot this new resource, there will be no cost for affiliates this first year. HFHC will cover the entire cost associated with the partnership. We hope affiliates will take advantage of this partnership in order to better meet the human resources challenges within our organization.

| Softwood Lumber Reimbursement Training |
Would your affiliate like to be reimbursed for softwood lumber? HFHC's Prison Partnership, in coordination with Habitat International, will be hosting a conference call training on September 22, from 10:00 am - 11:30 am about how your affiliate can get reimbursed for the lumber used to construct trusses ordered from the HFHC Prison Partnership.
Tameka Wimbush from HFHI, Ken Baylor from the Prison Partnership Program, and HFHC staff will host the training and walk you through the steps of the program. We will also cover how to get reimbursed for other softwood lumber orders not associated with the Prison Partnership.

HFHC Updating Affiliate Website
HFHC is in the process of updating our Affiliate Website to make it more user-friendly for you. The website provides a great opportunity to share affiliate resources, templates and sample documents. We are looking for resources in the following areas: Family Selection & Support, Construction & Land Acquisition, Volunteer Management, Fundraising, Board & Committees, Church Relations, Human Resources, Financial Management, and Information Technology. If you have sample documents, brochures, etc that you are willing to share please email them to Irene@habitatcolorado.org. You may also mail them to HFHC's office. |

Fort Collins HFH Will Split Donated Used Car Proceeds With CO Affiliates
If your affiliate would like to collect a higher percentage from cars donated to Habitat in your area, Fort Collins HFH would like to help you do so. Fort Collins HFH Home Supply Store is a licensed used car dealer. Mark Foster, Vehicle Department Manager, would like to propose that any cars people in your community approach you to donate could be sold at the Fort Collins Home Supply Store. Your affiliate gets 60% of the net proceeds, while Fort Collins HFH gets 40% for evaluating the car, coordinating maintenance, and selling the car.

Help Habitat Win $250,000 - Vote September 17-November 10
Wells Fargo has chosen Habitat for Humanity, The Boys and Girls Club, and Junior Achievement as the three causes competing for votes in their Someday Stories contest. The "Someday Story" - a goal or dream for the future submitted online by everyday people - collecting the most online votes will win the author a $100,000 cash prize. The prize for the winning cause is a $250,000 donation.

Mandatory CHFA Training for Affiliates
Save the date! All affiliates who are interested in selling mortgages to CHFA in 2009 or in the future are required to attend one mandatory training session at the beginning of the New Year.
The training will cover basic requirements of the mortgage sale program, review of required documents, and frequently asked questions. Several CHFA representatives and HFHC staff will conduct the training and answer your questions related to the mortgage sale process. All three trainings are the same so each affiliates is only required to attend one session.

Xcel Energy Foundation Awards HFHC $15,000
Habitat for Humanity of Colorado is proud to announce the Xcel Energy Foundation awarded Habitat Colorado $15,000 in August to support energy efficient construction at Colorado Habitat affiliates. The award money will be available to affiliates through a competitive application process to support innovative energy efficient construction. More information about the application process for affiliates will be available soon.
Habitat for Humanity of Colorado would like to sincerely thank the Xcel Energy Foundation for supporting sustainable homeownership opportunities for low-income families in Colorado.
New Volunteer Intern, Rebecca Mundt, Joins HFHC
Rebecca first started getting involved with Habitat in Kona, Hawaii. She fell in love with the work and continued to volunteer in Denver. She is studying at the University of Colorado Denver pursuing a Communications degree. She loves to travel and visit her family overseas. Although she has traveled many places, Rebecca loves Colorado the best. She enjoys hiking, rafting, climbing, camping, etc. She is very excited to learn more about Habitat and to be involved with Habitat's mission!
HFHC Board Committee Recruitment Continues
A part of HFHC's recent board restructuring is a commitment to enhance board committees. HFHC is currently seeking interested individuals willing to serve on one or multiple volunteer board committees. We encourage affiliate staff and volunteers, HFHC partners, and community members at large interested in combating sub-standard housing to join our committees.
Here are brief descriptions of the committees we are recruiting for:
Finance Committee - Reviews and oversees of HFHC's yearly budget, as well as implement and administer financial policies.
Government Relations Committee - Guides HFHC's government relations and advocacy programs.
Resource Development Committee - Guides HFHC's fundraising, capacity building, and resource allocation to affiliates. Also charged with responsibility for public and media relations programs.
Strategic Planning Committee - Coordinates the organization's strategic plan and future goals.

The training will not replace local affiliate orientation and training, but will supplement the training and will help to further emphasize the importance of the role of Board of Directors.
