Flat-fee FB and VSAT package from Stratos
- Stratos Global has introduced an new broadband service for the maritime industry called FBBPlus, which will offer a combined package of FleetBroadband 500 and Ku-band VSAT for a fixed monthly fee. >>more

 

Inmarsat awards Global Xpress contract
- Inmarsat has announced that it has awarded a contract to VT iDirect, valued at approximately US$60 million, to provide the ground network infrastructure and core module technology for integration into the satellite terminals for Inmarsat's forthcoming Global Xpress VSAT service. >>more

 

Höegh Autoliners to install Softship software system
- Maritime software provider Softship has won a contract with Höegh Autoliners to replace the vessel operator's core business systems with a new company-wide software solution. >>more

 

Software deal for ABC
- Swiss company ABCmaritime has agreed a deal with Norwegian company BASS to install the entire BASSnet 2.7 software suite on a fleet of 40 vessels. >>more

 

KT and SpeedCast in Ku partnership
- Korean telecoms provider KT has signed an alliance agreement with satellite services company SpeedCast, to deliver global maritime network services for its maritime customers via SpeedCast's Ku-band network. >>more

- German teleport and satellite service provider CETel (Central European Telecom Services) has entered into an agreement to acquire SeaMobile Europe. >>more

 

UK tanker installs planned maintenance system
- Marine Software reports that it has supplied its MPM - Marine Planned Maintenance system to UK-based John H Whitaker Tankers, to be installed onboard the company's latest 2,779 dwt bunker barge 'Whithaven'. >>more

- Seagull is launching an online version of APRO, a psychometric ability test tool aimed specifically at seafarers. >>more

 

Anti-piracy communications system launched
- Applied Satellite Engineering (ASE) has introduced a new system which aims to allow crews on a vessel under attack by pirates to retreat to a safe area while still maintaining communications links with the shore. >>more

Supply chain performance tools show shipping's green credentials
- DNV reports that it has completed the development of a supply chain performance tool, together with partners in the MARLEN project, for calculating the environmental impact and energy efficiency of maritime logistics chains. >>more

 

Korea to invest in 'green' shipbuilding
- The Korean government has pledged to invest approximately $270 million in the development of 'green' shipbuilding technology over the next decade, according to local reports. >>more

South African terminal moves to web-based system

- South African port operator Transnet Port Terminals is to begin its nationwide rollout of the Navis SPARCS N4 terminal operating system with the introduction of the system at the Durban Container Terminal (DCT). >>more
