Tips for Meeting Strangers
As children, our parents taught us never to
talk to strangers. Now that we are adults
and we are probably pretty safe talking to
strangers, it's been ingrained in our brains
not to do it. So now, for most people, it's
tough starting up a conversation with someone
you don't know. How can you overcome this?
What can you do to make it easier to meet a
handsome/beautiful stranger?
For starters, keep in mind that they are
probably nervous as well and that despite the
fact that you've never spoken, you do have
something in common. How could I have
something in common with someone I don't even
know? Well, you are at the same bar, event,
party, store, you name it, you are both
there. See, commonality! Now use this
common thread to create an opening and say
something. Whether it's commenting on the
event or on something they have bought or are
wearing, find something to open the door to a
conversation. If they don't continue the
conversation, fine, but at least you won't
regret not giving it a shot.
Let's say the cat's got your tongue and you
can't think of a thing to say. That's ok,
just smile instead. Or maybe a little wave
or nod of the head with a smile. You are now
more approachable so if this stranger is at
all interested in talking with you, they'll
feel much safer doing it now that you've
smiled at them.
In many cases, you will be somewhere with
friends and someone in your group may know
the stranger or someone who is with the
stranger. Use this opportunity for an
introduction. Wallah, no longer strangers!
For this next month, let go of your stranger
danger and set a goal to introduce yourself
to a few new people. Maybe you decide to
just say "Hi" to one new person a week or
maybe your goal is to start a conversation
with 2 new people every time you go out this
month. Whatever your goal, stick to it, who
knows you may just meet the love or your life
- or the best of friend of the future love of
your life!

Movie Night
I know, I know, movies do not always make
great dates, especially first dates, so why
am I suggesting it? You can't see each other,
you don't get a chance to talk, and you are
surrounded closely by other people. BUT,
movies offer some opportunities not available
on other dates. For example, you can get
closer to each other. Lift the arm rest or
rest your arm on it close enough to touch.
Guys, you can rest your arm across the back
of her chair, or reach out and hold her hand.
Then ask if it's ok. This will let you know
if she wants you to touch her and will give
you an idea of how she's feeling about you.
Once the movie is over, you have something
more to talk about and can continue your
date. Just make sure you pick something more
lighthearted, a romantic comedy maybe?

Free Weekend on Chemistry.com
Of all the online dating sites, I tend to
recommend Chemistry.com to my clients who are
looking to try something online. Keep in
mind that I still think getting out there and
meeting people is the best thing you can do!
This weekend (8/1-8/3) Chemistry is offering
a free weekend to everyone in the Denver
area. This is a great opportunity for you to
check it out and see what you think!
Chemistry is match.com's attempt at an
Eharmony type site where you fill out a
questionnaire (much shorter than on Eharmony)
and they send you potential matches. But
unlike Eharmony, you still have the
opportunity to search as well. So if you've
ever thought of giving it a shot, this
weekend is the time!
