I thought I would take the opportunity in the monthly
column to just write about a whole bunch of different
things! Hopefully you'll learn something and even
better you might have some fun reading it!
Patti: During the Matchmaker's
Conference I was able to
speak with nationally recognized matchmaker, Patti
Novak. If you
haven't seen her television show "Confessions of a
Matchmaker" on A&E you should check it out! Patti is
a tough, "say it as she see's it" sort of gal! So if I ever
give you feedback after a date you can be thankful it's
coming from me and not Patti!
Stats: At the Matchmaker's
Conference there was a lot of
great information to be had, check out some of the
statistics below.
Did you know:
- There are only 1500 matchmaker's in the U.S.
today.
- eHarmony's survey to get started has 436
questions!
- Match.com and eHarmony rank 4th and 5th
respectively among the top 15 U.S. online dating
sites. (What are 1, 2 & 3 you ask? SinglesNet, Plentyof
Fish and Yahoo).
- eHarmony has been in business 7 years.
Chemistry of Love: Ever wonder why
after you have sex with someone you
seem to be more attached to them? Well Dr. Helen
Fischer, the creator of Chemistry.com's online
questionnaire and advisor to Chemistry.com, says
she
has the answer. Dr. Fischer spoke at the conference
and she has been studying the biological theory of
love for years. I found her theories fascinating! She
says everything we associate with love (butterflies in
our stomach, euphoria, sweaty palms, obsessively
thinking about the other person, etc) can be explained
by the hormones or chemicals released by our body.
For example, sex drive is based on the amount of
testosterone running through your system. Men for
example are very visual (there's something we didn't
know!) and can look at a picture of an attractive
woman which in turn can increase their testosterone
levels thereby increasing their sex drive. Women on
the other hand tend to have more memory recall, so
they can release more testosterone when they think of
a fond memory related to their loved one.
According to Dr. Fischer, to sustain or trigger romance
you should go do novel things together - it triggers
dopamine, the chemical partly responsible for
feelings of romantic love!
Date Check: Ever Google a date prior
to going out with them??
Well, now there are sites out there that allow you to
search for your date via real name or online user
name. While there are millions of people reviewed,
be careful when reading them, remember that they
have been written by someone who has been burned
in some way and it is only one side of the story. The
big benefit?
You can find out if your future date is already married!
Whatever you do, use with caution! Some of the sites
include:
Girl Hot: This one's for the ladies!
Gals, when you get dressed
to go on a date or out with the girls consider who it is
you are dressing up for. There is a big difference
between what girls think is "hot" and what guys think
is "hot". Think about gals you know, anyone come to
mind that you think looks adorable all the time?
Always dressed perfectly with the cutest wardrobe
you've ever seen? That is girl hot. Now think of the
girlfriend that always wears clothes that show off her
great figure, maybe a little too much cleavage for your
tastes and is always in heels, that is guy hot. So who
are you dressing for when you go out?
