Alumni Spotlight:
Jenna Ferrieri '11 and William Markuske '10
Canada is often referred to as the Great White North, and St. John's, Newfoundland is no exception. What better place to study the effects of extreme weather on ships and structures?
After graduating from Webb, we've both started postgraduate studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland while working for Oceanic Consulting Corporation as test engineers. This translates to many, many hours of model experiments. From testing semi-submersibles in 10,000 year storms to using propeller wake as an ice clearing technique, we've seen our share of extreme environment testing. William even ripped a model off a tow post trying to examine its motions at 30+ knots in sea state six. (Yeah: extreme.) more...

Honoring William H. Webb on Founder's Day

Somebody must be doing something right because this marks two years in a row that Founder's Day has been blessed with fair skies and no rain. The nice weather both encouraged and enabled all hands to turn-to with much gusto during the annual afternoon field day. Students and staff, faculty and guests: all put forth maximum effort at a variety of tasks to clean-up and beautify our campus, in an attempt to give back and say thanks to our founder, Mr. William H. Webb. This year's tasks included but were not limited to planting flowers, pulling weeds and stumps, and washing windows. more... |

Freshman Phonathon was Successful!

Webb Institute's Class of 2015 participated in an annual "right-of-passage"... the Freshman Phonathon. The Phonathon is designed to give freshmen an opportunity to engage the Webb community and raise much-needed funds.
For a variety of reasons the 2012 Phonathon was a resounding success, with additional funds arriving daily. Total gifts and pledges, including matching gifts, exceeded $135,000. In addition to a record amount of money raised through gifts and pledges, students had the opportunity to speak with a number of alumni and other members of the Webb family. A variety of skills were on display, as well, including impressive entrepreneurial instinct as one industrious member of the Class of 2015 negotiated a potential internship. more... |
