Gary Jobson Speaks at WebbZeien Lecture
A fall nor'easter may have battered the East Coast the evening of November 12th, but it didn't keep Mr. Gary Jobson from speaking at Webb as part of the Zeien Lecture Series. Mr. Jobson made his way from Annapolis to Glen Cove to address members of the Webb family, assembled in a nearly full Henry Auditorium. Students, administration, staff, faculty and members of the Board of Trustees, as well as students' family members and members of local yacht clubs and the surrounding community, listened intently as Mr. Jobson recalled sailing in a regatta at Webb in the early 1970s while a student at SUNY Maritime. more

Student Spotlight: Kyle R. Manis '12 Manis
Originally from San Diego, CA, Kyle Manis has found a home-away-from-home in Webb. Currently a sophomore, he's following a path of service already, becoming very active in Webb leadership and activities.  Kyle's the Student Representative to the Webb Board of Trustees, and he left the recent board meeting with a positive attitude. "I believe that the future is bright for Webb Institute," he said, happily reporting that there is a strong correlation between the goals of the Student Organization and those of the Board.  "Both parties believe that there is a need to improve the school's visibility," Kyle observed.  "I look forward to aiding in this effort."  His first efforts are helping the Development Committee to improve the Webb News and start a new monthly E-News letter.
Webb Basketball Looking to ReboundBasketball
Not every lesson learned on the basketball court is born of a winning season.  Last year wasn't great, but Webb basketball was looking to rebound in 2009 with a team that returned all five starters. So far the team is 0-5 this season, with a heartbreaking two-point loss away at Sarah Lawrence. The team hopes to play well in the last two games of the season before saying goodbye to Chris Lyons, Peter Lee, and Lowell Dickerson who will be graduating in the spring. Webb's young guards will surely benefit from this season's experiences and come back better prepared to lead the team next year. Sophomore captain John Gotta says, "We haven't had the kind of season we thought we could have, but we will not put our heads down.  We will work even harder to be the best basketball team we can be." more
