 November 23, 2011
Greetings!
Aadil and Mirra in Hawaii

This time of year we are called to go inward at a time when most people are going outward with the busyness of holiday preparations. Please, if you do have a lot to do, always bring with you the most helpful thing: your smile! A sincere smile opens the heart and connects you to the feeling of love and gratitude, which is the reason for the holidays in the first place.

Aadil and I are so thankful to all of you who take the time to read these newsletters and apply what you read to your life. Together we can make the most beautiful shift for our lives and our planet and give the greatest gift of all - our love, our light, and our smile.

In Love and Light,

Savitri and Aadil

  • November 7 and 14  The Power of Words, Parts 1 and 2.  The use of English and correct grammer organize the mind. Aadil will discuss common mistakes in grammer and why solving those mistakes make you more focused and clearly understood.
  • October 24  Birth and Intuition. What impact does our birth have on our intuition? Does the way we birth our babies affect our intuition? Aadil and Savitri discuss what really happens when we are born, and the factors surrounding our birth that shape our destiny.
  • October 10  Why is Losing a Loved One so Painful? Savitri and Mona discuss how to support others and yourself when there is a loss. This was a very powerful show, discussing cords and how to truly love our friends and loved ones.

Teaching with Joy
From the acclaimed book, Fire of Love, by Aadil PalkhivalaFire of Love, by Aadil Palkhivala

Above all, we must teach with joy. If you are not enjoying yourself while teaching, how can you expect your students to find joy in their practice? The teacher's joy, by its natural and exuberant testimony, transmits joy to the student. Most of us look back at our school lives and fondly remember the teachers who truly enjoyed teaching. Indeed, I chose to major in physics because my physics professor was so passionately fond of his subject.

Among the great yoga teachers I have known, it is a common practice to pause for a moment before entering their teaching space, put their right hand on their Heart Center, connect with their inner Self, bow their head, and only then proceed into the room. This practice, though brief, connects them to the source of their joy and sets the tone for the entire class to come. Embrace this practice and make it yours.

As teachers, we must observe ourselves and constantly ask, "Am I fostering joy? Am I encouraging freedom, or am I giving instructions that merely elicit conditioned responses? Am I teaching in a kind and non-comparative way so that my students never fall into the pits of anger, jealousy, greed, competitiveness, and violence? Am I teaching in a way that awakens in my students the joy of doing yoga?"
