Greetings!

Aadil and Mirra in Hawaii

Last month I learned an important lesson about the value of vacations! They are so necessary! Aadil and I had a wonderful vacation in Hawaii in July, where there is such a special healing energy.

I learned how important it is to have time to rest and nurture yourself, without the busyness of daily life. But don't use your vacation time as an excuse to check out from your heart, and your connection to your Soul. (Read this month's Fire of Love excerpt for more in the idea of escaping to find stillness.) Instead, use this special time to deepen that bond, so you return even brighter!

May this quote inspire your week - and your vacation time:

"Your soul blossoms to the Light
even as a flower opens to the sun."

In Love and Light,
Savitri
Happy Birthday!

birthday candlesBirthdays are a special time of the year in Purna Yoga. In August we celebrate two major birthdays, both on the same day! August 15 is Sri Aurobindo's birthday and Savitri's birthday.

As The Mother wrote, "This day is truly an opportunity in life. One is so open and so receptive that one can assimilate all that is given. It is as if the Divine were inviting us to rekindle more powerfully the flame of aspiration. And this - this is a real change in life - the day of the Grace."

All Around the World!

Aadil will be in Chicago in September, at Moksha Yoga, then heading down to North Carolina, for a special weekend at Purna Yoga East, the studio owned by Purna Yoga teachers Catharine and Bob!

In October, Aadil returns home to Yoga Centers to teach the 6-day Therapeutic Teacher Training - which will include new updates to the 342-page manual!

Then, he is off on his European tour, visiting London, Holland, and finally, to Studio Prana, owned by Purna Yoga Teacher Tove Palmgren in Helsinki Finland.

News from Savitri
Savitri in Hawaii

Savitri has a full fall schedule of meditation workshops:
  • September Welcoming the Light 1
  • November Welcoming the Light 2
  • December Intermediate Meditation Immersion
She has also been enjoying holding the energy and giving voice to their Radio Show when Aadil is out of town teaching. The radio show has been a wonderful medium for sharing about Purna Yoga Meditation in a way that appeals to people who don't do yoga or meditate!  For example, be sure to listen to the series on feelings - "Where is Jiminy Cricket when you need him!"

We are also loading onto the website her 2012 schedule of workshops - and she is doing a lot!  Look for these listings this week!

  • July 25: Aadil talks with David Swenson, a longtime friend of Aadil's and one of the world's foremost teachers of Ashtanga Yoga, as well as one of the first students of Ashtanga founder Pattabhi Jois. David shares about the difficulties and hardships he went through to fulfill his passion.
  • July 18: Aadil talks with world-famous author Kevin Trudeau about personal development, what it takes to change, food and supplements, and why Kevin's reputation (in some circles) is so bad!

Savor Stillness
From the acclaimed book, Fire of Love,
by Aadil Palkhivala
Fire of Love, by Aadil Palkhivala

We all seek peace of mind, yet it eludes us unless we are willing to nurture its growth. How? Stillness is the seed, silence the plant that grows, while peace and its attendant joy are the ripening fruit. Thus, stillness is a prerequisite for silence, and silence for peace. So, slow the tempo, turn down the volume, and invite stillness into your life and mind. Each day, create a time for meditation, a time for introspection, for stillness.

Though it is easy to simulate peace of mind by retreating from our incessantly busy world, true peace is not affected by external chaos. Peace of mind can only be found within. When we require specific outer conditions for inner peace, we can, at best, only fleetingly glimpse its circumstances may change and our peace (though illusory) will suddenly be stolen. We have true peace of mind only when we are calm and unmoved by the curves and twists of life.

The core of peace is equanimity, unrufflability, that calm state of serene composure. While the opposite of peace is agitation, equanimity is beyond such dualism. When equanimity is ours, we are neither elated nor saddened, neither excited nor depressed. We take all things in stride, without getting upset, without becoming overly joyous. No longer is there a sense that our life is perpetually flying up and then crashing down. We graciously accept what comes to us, cultivating rare nobility.

Even if you only glimpse moments of peace, be grateful. Be patient. Whenever you find a moment of peace, focus on it. Whatever you focus on, expands. Peace of mind grows with peace of mind.
